Six new qualifiers for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championship and a school record lowered highlighted the Chestnut Hill College Women's Track and Field team's performance at the Danny Curran Invitational this past weekend at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
The record was lowered by Sydney Watts, who took 18 seconds off her own 5,000-meter run mark of 18:53 with an 18:35.45 performance in the event Friday night. Her time is also the fastest 5K run by a CACC runner so far this season and ranks fourth in the East Region for NCAA Division II.
Two qualifying marks were put up by senior Anastasia Watson Friday night in the shot put and discus throws.   Watson placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 39.19 meters (128'7") and was 12th in the shot put with a toss of 10.82 meters (35'6")
On Saturday, Rebecca Dalton qualified in two events, running the 1,500-meter run in 5:14.41 and finishing in 11th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:40.96, just one second off the school record. The race marked the first time Dalton had ever competed in the steeplechase event.
Gabby Hassler also qualified in the steeplechase, finishing 19th overall with a time of 14:41.17.
Erin McCarthy rounded out the Griffin qualifiers, placing 19th overall in the javelin throw Saturday morning with a toss of 27.33 meters (89'8").
In the sprint races, DeAnna Otero ran a personal best time of 14:09 seconds for thew 100 meter dash. And later had a time of 29.86 for the 200 meter dash.
Soleil Casseus made her collegiate debut Friday night in the 5,000 meter run, finishing in 23:52.20.
The women's track and field team returns to action next weekend when they compete at the Ursinus Track and Field Festival in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
