Griffins Place Four Athletes on the CSC Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross CountryTeam

Four members of the Chestnut Hill College Women's Track and Field and Cross Country teams have been named to the 2024-2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's Track and Field/Cross Country team in an announcement made by the organization and the CSC Academic All-America® committee.

Named to the Academic All-District® team was seniors  Sydney WattsAnastasia Watson and Erin McCarthy. Along with junior Rebecca Dalton   Watts earns CSC Academic All-District® honors for the second third consecutive year while Watson and McCarthy are repeat honorees.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes Women's Track and Field/Cross Country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for Academic All-District® Track and Field/Cross Country accolades, student-athletes must be at least at sophomore athletically and academically, have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better and record at least one top 50 individual performance in their respective region in either cross country, indoor track or outdoor track. Eligible nominees will be based off of TFRRS performance list rankings at the time of nomination. Graduate students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA in both their undergraduate and graduate programs.
 
Academic All-District® honorees are reviewed by a group of Academic All-America® committee members for consideration for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot, where first, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees are chosen by the CSC Division II membership and the Academic All-America® core committee.  Watts. Watson and Dalton were advanced to the national ballot.
 
All four Chestnut Hill athletes are members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society  with Dalton, McCarthy and Watson getting inducted last month and Watts in 2024.  The four have also earned CACC All Academic Team honors multiple times and CACC Academic honor roll accolades in each of the last three semesters since the program was instituted in Fall of 2023.

An all conference performer in cross country in the fall, Watts took home second place at the CACC Championships and finished 45 in the D2 East Region Championship.  On the track in the spring, the senior distance runner broke school records at both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter distance, finishing her career holding both the indoor and outdoor records at those distances.

Watts graduated in May with honors earning a bachelor's degree in health science.  She has earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors twice (2023 2024) and is also a two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. Watts earned USTFCCCA All-academic honors for cross country in the fall of 2024 and was inducted in Sigma Zeta the national science and mathematics honor society in 2023.

Watson recently graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. In addition to being part of Chi Alpha Sigma, she is also a member of Tri-Alpha, the National Honor society for first-generation college students. Late last month Watson was named to the CSC Academic All-district team for softball.  In addition to softball and track and field she ran cross country in the fall.   She has earned departmental honors for chemistry and has been named to the Chestnut Hill College Dean's five times.

The senior thrower finished her career holding three school records in the throwing events, discus, indoor shot put and outdoor shotput.  She broke her own outdoor record with a toss of 11.50 meters in her final collegiate meet, the CACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.  In the discus, Watson holds the top 20 all-time marks in school history.  

Dalton had on of the top ten times in the East Region this season for the 3,000-meter steeplechase breaking the school record with a time of 12:36.76 in just her second collegiate race in the event.  She earned all-CACC honors this season with a second place finish in the steeplechase.

A criminal justice major, Dalton is also a two time CSC Academic All-District Winner for Women's Soccer and a D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner for 2023-24. She has also earned CHC Athletic Academic honor roll accolades in each of her first six semesters and Dean's List honors four times.  

McCarthy has competed in the javelin throw event in each of the past three seasons, qualifying for the conference championship meet in 2024 and again this season.  She has a top throw of 27.33 meters this season and a career best toss of 28.53 meters in 2024. (fourth longest toss in program history).

An exercise science major McCarthy has earned Dean's List and CHC athletic Academic Honor Roll accolades in every semester while at Chestnut Hill.
