New Haven, CT – (4/27/2010) – Junior catcher Bryan Henry (Columbus, NJ) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week after batting .483 (14-for-29) over seven contests last week. In the final three games of the week, Henry went 12-for-15 (.800) and knocked in seven runs. He was an honorable mention for the award for consecutive weeks earlier this season, March 8 through 21.
Chestnut Hill College (15-18, 11-7) dropped two games to East Stroudsburg University and was swept in a CACC doubleheader with Wilmington University to open the week, but thanks to Henry’s bat the Griffins closed the week with three straight wins. Henry recorded one hit in his first, 14 at-bats of the week (2-for-14, .143), before catching fire. He went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homerun to knock in three runs in a non-conference game with the University of the Sciences (4/22/1). He followed that with an 8-for-11 performance in the doubleheader with Nyack College (4/24/10). The Griffins won the opener 22-6 over the Warriors with Henry having a 6-for-6 performance, including three doubles, a triple, and four runs-batted-in (RBI). He was 2-for-5 in the second game.
Henry leads the Griffins in batting (.367), hits (44), doubles (12), and RBI (23) and slugging (.550). He also shares the team lead in triples (2) and has stolen ten bases (10-of-14) this season. Additionally, Henry has been a weapon behind the plate throwing out 19 out of 39 base runners (48.7%).
The baseball team challenges Philadelphia University in a non-conference contest next. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27.
