Pizarro’s Performance Versus Clippers Places Griffin on CACC Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (10/14/2013) – After being held in check during the Griffins 4-2 loss against Philadelphia University, on Tuesday, October 8, senior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) erupted for two goals and an assist in Chestnut Hill College’s 4-2 defeat of Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, October 12. The offensive outburst earned Pizarro her second mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Honor Roll.

Over the weekend, Concordia College (NY) (0-7, 0-7) made good on their few chances, but eventually fell to an overpowering Chestnut Hill College (3-7-1, 3-3-1), who outshot the Clippers 32-3 in a 4-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. An energetic Pizarro scored twice for an early lead, junior midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) deposited the game-winner, and sophomore midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) added the insurance in the Griffins third overall, and league, win of the season.

The Clippers fired their contest's fist two shots. They scored on the second shot,  grabbing an early 1-0 advantage at 3:24 when freshman forward Amanda Scherb (Kings Park, N.Y.) sent senior defender Jodian Braham (Jamaica, West Indies) on a successful breakaway. But the Clipper lead would only hold for four minutes as Pizarro converted a perfectly organized assault that included well played advances; to the corner by Spinuzza, and cross from senior midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) that found Pizarro at 7:39, 1-1. Following their first goal, the Griffins kept the pressure on as Pizarro struck again less than five minutes later, scoring on an unassisted rebound strike at 12:07, 2-1. At 78:11, Williams broke a 2-2 tie and deposited the eventual game-winning goal when she scored a rebound strike, 3-2, less than five minutes later Spinuzza supplied some insurance with her first goal of the season coming off a tick-tack-toe combination with junior midfielder Victoria Fioretti (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) and Pizarro at 83:59, 4-2. The final six minutes passed without a reply from the Clippers, who remain winless on the year.

The women's soccer team will continue their CACC schedule at Wilmington University on Tuesday, October 15, when they visit the Wildcats for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
