Riiff Named CACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

New Haven, CT – (9/21/2010) – Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) helped
Chestnut Hill College to two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins last week, as the Griffins remained undefeated in conference play. She scored the deciding goal in a 1-0 defeat of Georgian Court University and then provided a helper in the 2-0 win over Concordia College; her on-field performance earned her the CACC Player of the Week Award.

This week, Chestnut Hill College (4-1-1, 3-0) recorded their second and third consecutive CACC, shutout victories this year. Riiff was a major contributor in both triumphs. She recorded her first goal of the season in the Griffins 1-0 win over Georgian Court University on September 14. After a scoreless first half, Riiff broke the stalemate with a goal off the feed from sophomore midfielder Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ). Her goal proved to be the game-winner as sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) and the Griffin defense held on for their second straight CACC shutout. They would record their third shutout in their next contest against Concordia College on September 18. The Griffins owned the early momentum against the Clippers, but despite an 8-1 shot advantage contest was scoreless until junior defender Lauren Brown (Dover, DE) capitalized on a scrabble in the Clipper box, 1-0. In the 54th minute, Riiff located sophomore forward Alyssa Radetich (Sewell, NJ) on a cross to center for an insurance tally, 2-0 and once again Veazey and the defense would hold on for the shutout victory. Riiff is currently tied with freshman midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) for the team lead in points (3).

The women’s soccer team continues their CACC schedule with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, September 22.
