McWade Warrants CACC Weekly Rookie Title

New Haven, N.H. – (12/15/2014) – Totaling five points, three rebounds, and an assist in Chestnut Hill College’s recent 63-49 league loss at Philadelphia University, freshman forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) was recognized as the latest Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week.

A consistent team defense was not enough to overcome a cold first half and a 45-30 rebounding deficit as Chestnut Hill College (2-6, 1-2) fell to, cross-city rival, Philadelphia University (5-4, 3-1) by a 63-49 final in Tuesday evening's CACC fray. The Rams gradually pulled away for a 34-16 halftime advantage with their 25-12 first-half rebounding advantage and the Griffins 22.6% (7-of-31) shooting effort serving as the difference. In the second half, senior guard Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.) got the Griffins back in the mix, getting senior center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) involved before scoring five straight points to end a run that cut the spread to 12 points, 45-33, with 12:40 to play. A good jumper from McWade kept the deficit at a dozen, 49-37, with 8:13 remaining and five minutes later a Radtke jumper and three successful foul shots from sophomore guard Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) brought the spread to its tightest setting, 53-46, with 3:40 to go. Unfortunately, that seven-point margin was as close as the Griffins got before fighting the clock in the Rams parade to the free throw line.

McWade has started every game of this freshman campaign, providing 4.9 points-per-game (PPG) and 3.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG) while totaling five assists and two steals. His best collegiate performance came on Saturday, November 29, when he recorded 18 points, three rebounds, an assist, and a steal in the Griffins triumphant home opener against the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), 99-97 (OT).

The men’s basketball team has a pair of home games before the holiday break; the first is an 8:00 p.m. CACC contest on Wednesday, December 17, against Goldey-Beacom College.
