Lafayette Hill, PA – (3/13/2010) – In monsoon-like conditions, Chestnut Hill College faced-off against the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in this afternoon's East Coast Conference (ECC) contest. The Bears netted two scores in the opening two minutes, setting the tone for a 28-1 victory. Freshman attack Nate Tharp (Laurel, MD) came through with the lone Griffin goal, breaking the shutout with 7:18 remaining in the affair.

Senior attack Matt Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.) was the point-man for NYIT (3-1, 2-0), accumulating 12 points in the contest. Sullivan netted three of the Bears' first, four goals and he had a hand in 11 of the Bear's 17 first-half goals. Sullivan finished the contest with five goals and seven assists. The Bears had two other players record at least five points in the contest. Senior midfielder Kevin Hennessy (West Babylon, N.Y.) totaled four goals and three assists, while senior attack Austin Carino (Huntington, N.Y.) provided four goals and two assists. Junior goalie Shaun Church (Hicksville, N.Y.) collected the win (3-1) for NYIT, making two saves in the first quarter. 

Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 0-2) was able to make some headway in the second half with freshman midfielder Alex Sabia (Conshohocken, PA) taking over on face-offs. Sabia was 7-for-19 in the circle and he controlled five ground balls. Tharp's score came on a strike down the left side of the field; he beat the Bear goalie to the far bottom corner of the net for his third goal of the season. Freshman midfielder Junji Wiener (Houston, TX) led the Griffins in shots with five; Tharp and freshman attack Mark Winkelspecht (Laury Station, PA) each totaled four shots. Freshman Tom Carfagna (Laury Station, PA) led the Griffins defensively with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Freshman goalie Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) took the loss (2-2) for the Griffins. He totaled four saves in the opening quarter. Freshman goalie Andrew D'Addona (Norristown, PA) made six saves, playing the second and third quarters for Chestnut Hill College.

The men's lacrosse team travels to Penn State-Abington for their next contest. A 4:30 p.m. game on Tuesday, March 16.
