Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) became third Griffin this season to reach the 100 career win plateau, doing so with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number two singles.
Chestnut Hill College (18-8) took the upper hand on their home courts with wins at number two and number three doubles. Dennis and sophomore
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) were the victors at number two doubles 8-1, while freshman
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) and senior
Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) combined for the point at number three doubles, 8-0. Philadelphia University (12-9) managed to escape the team round with a 9-7 win at number one doubles, but it would be the only point they would earn as the Griffins swept singles play to secure an 8-1 triumph. Dennis was the first to claim individual victory, earning her 100
th career with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number two singles. Following Dennis' milestone, senior
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) took number three singles 6-1, 6-2. Senior
Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) then won at number one singles, 6-0, 6-2, before Owens, Oechsle, and Knott succeeded at number six singles, 6-0, 6-3, number four singles, 6-0, 6-1, and number five singles, 6-1, 6-1, respectively.
Prior to this afternoon's competition, the Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics and Recreation honored Knott, Parapouras, and Shcherbakova in annual Senior Day proceedings. During their tenure, the Griffins have enjoyed a 52-41 (.559) mark while earning the College's first NCAA DII Championship Tournament appearance in 2012. Of special note, Parapouras completes her collegiate career as the program's all-time leader in wins, 114, with a 61-7 (.897) singles mark and 53-20 (.726) doubles standing.
