Box Score Norristown, Pa. - (4/28/2015) – With the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season behind them, Chestnut Hill College welcomed Philadelphia University to Latshaw-McCarthy Field for a late-afternoon contest today. After some early fireworks the Griffins stayed hot against the Rams, making efficient use of 13 base hits, seven walks, and two hit batsman in a 12-4 victory. Freshman pitcher
Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.) stayed perfect (5-0) while junior first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) and senior shortstop
Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.) kept the table set with three hits apiece.
Philadelphia University (12-24) took advantage of a slow start for Sibson, who allowed the Rams a 2-0 head start with a pair of runs in the opening frame. Thankfully, his teammates brought the lumber as Chestnut Hill College (26-10) answered the Rams early success with five first-inning tallies of their own. An opening error by the Ram second baseman served as the bad omen with singles from Campion and junior left fielder
Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) plating the first two Griffin tallies, 2-2. Successive singles from Koehler and sophomore center fielder
Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) brought home the next two, 4-2, and a wild pitch the last, 5-2. The score held there for the next two innings with the Rams cutting the deficit to 5-3 before Koehler and senior third baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.) combined to plate three runs in the fourth, 8-3. A sacrifice fly from junior designated hitter
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) added another Griffin run in the sixth inning, 9-4, and singles from sophomore third baseman
Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) and junior left fielder
Dalton Cozart (Commerce Twp., Mich.) in the eighth inning increased the final spread to eight runs, 12-4.
In relief of Sibson, junior
Casey Kern (Stony Point, N.Y.), senior
Vincent Manzella (Matawan, N.J.), and freshman
Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) combined to allow the Rams one hit over their final four at-bats. Three triples and ten singles were the offenses catalysts as four Griffins knocked in two runs while three others plated one. In three meetings with the Rams this season, the Griffins outscored their local rival 42-14.
The baseball team continues to prep for the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, when they host the University of the Sciences (USciences) in a 6:00 p.m. non-conference home finale.
