Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/18/2015) – The
Nate Geigle era of Chestnut Hill College women's tennis began this evening with a victory as the Griffins toppled, former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East Regional opponent, Stonehill College by an 7-2 final. The Griffins earned points in the top two doubles flights, putting the Skyhawks down 2-1 before running away in singles competition.
Stonehill College (3-2) started out with the lead; securing number three doubles 8-3. Warming up for a weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regionals, Chestnut Hill College (1-0) quickly turned their fortune around with junior
Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) and senior
Axé Owens (Trenton, N.J.) controlling the number one doubles match, 8-1, and senior captain
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) and sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany) taking number two doubles, 8-5.
With the lead in hand, the Griffins separated with consecutive individual wins at number one and number three singles before the Skyhawks got on the scoreboard again. Josso headlined the singles format with a quick 6-2, 6-0 dispatch of senior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mass.). Soon after, Williams-Mulesa picked up her second victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number three singles. The win brings her career total to 96, leaving her four wins shy of the 100-win milestone heading into this weekend's regional tournament. Subsequently, the Skyhawks spoiled the Griffin run with freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Mass.) claiming number three singles by a 6-3, 6-2 final. But the reprise was short-lived as senior
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) triumphed at number five singles, 6-1, 6-2, freshman
Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) rallied for her first collegiate win at number six singles, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0, and Scholtze finished off the Skyhawks with a 7-6 (6-3), 7-5 win at number two singles.
Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team will join the men tomorrow, Saturday, September 19, at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the first day of competition at the ITA East Regionals.
