1/13/2016 12:49:00 AM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/12/2016) – Continuing an exchange of wins and losses that began back on December 16 with an 81-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at Wilmington University, Chestnut Hill College matched that very final in tonight's 81-69 triumph over league rival Nyack College. Evening their conference record at 4-4, four Griffins finished in double figures with senior guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) leading the quartet on a 25-point effort.

Nyack College (5-9, 3-5) held a 30-27 halftime advantage after a few rushed possessions that provided the visitors the last six points of the period. Chestnut Hill College (7-9, 4-4) led by as many as six points four times in the frame, the last time was with 2:15 remaining, when Dickson scored a pass from sophomore guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) to give the Griffins a 27-21 edge. But a responsorial three-pointer, a pair of free throws, and two turnover inspired baskets handed the Warriors the upper hand heading to the locker rooms.

However, Chestnut Hill College came out of intermission with a chip on their shoulder, making statement after statement before tying the contest for the last time on an emphatic flush from senior forward Noel Hightower (Easton, Pa.) at 11:02, 46-46. The Griffin captain stirred the Sorgenti Arena faithful and the Scarlet and Gold alike as the home team immediately staked an eight-point lead, 55-47, on a Dickson jumper at 8:10. It reached 10 points, 59-49, at 7:14 on a free throw from freshman guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.), who came off the Griffin bench for 16 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Unable to take Chestnut Hill College head on, Nyack College opted to foul to gain an edge, a game plan proved fruitless as the Griffins hit 10-of-10 (1.000) free throws en route to a 12-point victory, 81-69.

Freshman guard Shawn Witherspoon (Philadelphia, Pa.) led four Warriors in double figures with 17 points in addition to his seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Junior guard Robert Tyler (Beltsville, Md.) provided 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while junior guard Jaron Smith (Bayonne, N.J.) offered 12 points, four rebounds, and an assist. Senior forward Frank Martin (Miami, Fla.) was the fourth double digit scorer with 11 points in excess of five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Dickson was 9-of-14 (.643) from the floor, 4-of-7 (.571) from three-point range, and 3-of-4 (.750) from the free throw line in his third straight 20-point performance. He added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals to the scoring. Isaac totaled 17 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals while sophomore forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J) contributed 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Awl was responsible for 16 of 25 bench points. He hit two from lone range (2-of-7, .286) in a 5-of-12 (.417) shooting effort that came with a 4-of-6 (.667) showing at the free throw line, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule at the University of the Sciences on Saturday, January 16, when they meet the Devils for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
