3/12/2016 4:03:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/12/2016) – Drawing a free position foul with only a second (0:01) left on the game clock, senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) sent this afternoon's contest with Kutztown University to an extra frame. Unfortunately, overtime only lasted 35 seconds as Kutztown University sophomore midfielder Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa.) deposited the golden goal, 11-10, with 5:25 remaining on the clock. Keimig led the Griffins in scoring with her third hat trick of the season while sophomore attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) was the primary playmaker with a goal and four assists.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa.) got Kutztown University (4-0) off to a good start with the afternoon's first two goals, 2-0. A third Golden Bears goal at 10:28 extended the visitor lead to 3-0 before Chestnut Hill College (1-4) interrupted the run on an unassisted tally from freshman midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) with 4:24 remaining in the opening half, 3-1. The goal inspired the Griffins, who recorded two of the next three goals en route to a 4-3 halftime deficit.

After intermission, the goals came more frequently with the Golden Bears scoring first (5-3 @ 29:45) before Keimig and Galantich sparked the Griffins on a 4-1 run that landed Chestnut Hill College a 7-6 lead with 22:06 remaining in regulation. Following a pair of goals for Kutztown University and a pair of goals for the Scarlet and Gold, the margin remained in the home team's favor 9-8 heading to the last ten minutes. But that is when Huggins struck, scoring back-to-back unassisted tallies at 8:46 (9-9) and 8:10 to give the Golden Bears a 10-9 lead. Looking to kill the remaining clock, they held their final regulation possession as long as possible, however, a critical play from senior defender Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave the Griffins one last chance. Keimig eventually capitalized on the opportunity, slinging a free position shot past the Golden Bear keeper as time expired, 10-10. Yet, all was for not with Huggins netting the game-winner just 35 seconds into overtime.

Gabriele was the Golden Bears' top performer with five goals, five draws, and a ground ball. She got plenty of help from Huggins, who scored four goals in addition to two draws, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Junior defender Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J.) captained the backfield with two draws, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers while behind her, junior goalkeeper Abby Cox (York, Pa.) and sophomore goalkeeper Jen Bergey (Souderton, Pa.) split halves. Both made two saves with Bergey earning the win (3-0) in the final 30:35.

Keimig added an assist, a ground ball, and two caused turnovers to her third three-goal effort of the season. Galantich played the point well and added some defensive too with a ground ball and a caused turnovers. Reinert and junior midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) scored two goals apiece; the former also provided an assist and three ground balls while the latter recovered a ground ball and caused a turnover. Juniors, midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) and attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) were responsible for the other Griffins goals. Herron became a factor late in the game with four clutch draw controls.
Weidner and sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) combined for seven caused turnovers to help junior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.), who made eight saves and recovered a ground ball in the loss (1-4).

The Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, March 15, when they visit Mercy College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
