Well-Rested Griffins Wow Wildcats in CACC Opener

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/30/2016) – Returning to action for the first time since St. Patrick's Day, Chestnut Hill College opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with an evening contest opposite Wilmington University. Junior attack Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) got the Griffins off to a strong start before a pair of free position goals from junior midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) spurred the Scarlet and Gold on for a 13-2 league victory. Sanders led the Griffins with five points on four goals and an assist while Keimig continued her great two-way play with a goal, an assist, two ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnovers.
 
Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 1-0) started the scoring at 25:04 with a connection between sophomore attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and Sanders, 1-0. Keimig added an unassisted goal at 23:57, 2-0, before Sanders repaid Galantich at 21:38, 3-0. Sanders scored her second goal of the game at 20:26, 4-0, but the run was ended at 19:14 with a goal from Wilmington University (0-7, 0-1) senior attack Sara LeBrun (Bel Air, Md.) recording the Wildcats' only goal of the opening half at 19:14, 4-1.
 
Intermission came with Chestnut Hill College up 9-1 and after a pair of scores from sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.), 10-1 (22:48), and O'Leary (11-1 at 19:45) the Griffins enjoyed an accelerated clock for most of the second half. The Scarlet and Gold outscored the Wildcats 4-1 in the frame for a 13-2 CACC victory.
 
LeBrun scored both of the Wildcat goals while sophomore defender Christina Ziegler (Elkton, Md.) and sophomore midfielder La'Dae Boykin (Edgewood, Md.) headlined their defensive efforts with five ground balls and four caused turnovers between the two of them. In goal, freshman Maddie Hurm (Elkton, Md.) recorded seven saves and a ground ball in the loss (0-7).
 
Sanders added a ground ball and a draw to her five-point performance while O'Leary finished with three goals and two ground balls. Galantich totaled four points on two goals and two assists. She also recovered a ground ball. Junior attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) was also a factor with two assists, four draws, and a caused turnover. In goal, junior Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) and freshman Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) split time with Lang earning the win (3-5) with five saves and Amaya cleaning up with three more in the second half.

The women's lacrosse team continues a busy restart of their season on Friday, April 1, when they host Molloy College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
