Box Score Rochester, N.Y. - (4/16/2016) – After two weeks off, Chestnut Hill College scored the first two goals of today's game at Roberts Wesleyan College, who they kept a step ahead of in the first half, 7-5, and put away with an eight-goal run that spanned the duration of the third quarter and half of the fourth in a 16-7 East Coast Conference (ECC) victory. Junior attack
Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) recorded his fourth game of five points (
three goals and two assists) or more to bring his career point total to 100. He is the third Griffin to reach this milestone, following
Michael Melnychenko '14 and
Mark Winkelspecht '14.
Dambach scored the first goal of the game just a minute (14:00) after the opening faceoff, 1-0. The next Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 3-3) goal came just 38 seconds later (13:22) on a man-up connection between freshman attack
Casey Brown (Havre de Grace, Md.) and senior attack
Michael Plaia (Hicksville, N.Y.), 2-0. Roberts Wesleyan College (3-10, 1-5) briefly cut the deficit to one goal, 2-1, with a man-up goal of their own at 12:50, but after an exchange of tallies an unassisted score from senior
George Markey (Branchburg, N.J.) gave the Scarlet and Gold a 4-2 advantage heading to the second quarter. There, Dambach's third goal (11:26) and an unassisted effort from senior defenseman
Derick Darnulc (Baldwin, N.Y.) increased the Griffin advantage to 6-2 five minute before halftime (5:00). The Red Hawks gave their best to narrow the gap by one at the break, 7-4, but the effort was overshadowed by Chestnut Hill College's upcoming eight-goal run. Darnulc sparked the streak with a second unassisted goal at 12:56, 8-4. Succeeding Griffin goals came at 10:40 (9-4), 9:54 (10-4), 5:02 (11-4), 3:56 (12-4), 9:09 (13-4) of the fourth quarter, 8:06 (14-4), and 7:21 (15-4), leaving a late Red Hawks rebuttal futile in a 16-7 final.
Junior attack Matt Benedict (Victoria, B.C.) and freshman attack Brady Martin (Ottawa, Ontario) each scored twice for Roberts Wesleyan College. Benedict also recorded an assist and a ground ball. Brady recovered two. Senior midfielder Seth Miller (Spencerport, N.Y.) did his best to help the Red Hawks with 12 ground balls in a 20 (20-of-24, .833) faceoff victories. Junior goalkeeper Keith Keehn (Penfield, N.Y.) played the majority of their minutes (58:34) in net and made 12 saves and recovered three ground balls.
Besides the three goals from Dambach and the two from Darnulc, freshman attack
Michael DelGiornio (Floral Park, N.Y.) provided the first two tallies of his collegiate career. The rest were spread individually among nine others; most notable was sophomore attack
Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) who totaled a goal, an assist, and a ground ball, and Markey who added an assist and two ground balls to his first-quarter score. Darnulc was impressive, recording three ground balls and two caused turnovers in addition to his third and fourth goals of the year. Sophomore goalkeeper
Matthew Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.) was solid in his first collegiate start, earning the win (1-0) with 17 saves, a ground ball, and two caused turnovers.
The Griffins conclude their 2016 schedule with four straight home the games, the first of which is a 7:00 p.m. contest versus Georgian Court University.
