4/27/2016 7:34:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/27/2016) – Battling for the Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) regular season championship and the top seed in the upcoming postseason tournament, Chestnut Hill College concluded their banner season with an epic clash against cross-city rival Philadelphia University. Separated by more than a goal for roughly 15 minutes of the contest, the home team's game-winning tally, 10-9, came just before the six-minute mark (6:01). Four Griffins scored twice, and junior midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) once, in a team effort that also received significant contributions from junior attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.), junior midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), and junior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.).

A series of unassisted scores opened the contest and left Philadelphia University (12-4, 9-0) with the upper hand on a goal by freshman attack Laura Dunne (Collegeville, Pa.) at 17:12 (2-1). After a Chestnut Hill College (10-5, 8-0) connection between freshman midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) and senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) at 16:43 (2-2), a seesaw battle of free position scores left the game even, 4-4, with 7:38 remaining in the first half. Soon after the Lady Rams separated with a three-goal run that began with a goal from junior midfielder Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at the seven-minute mark (6-4 at 7:00) and ended with a pair of scores from senior midfielder Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa.), 7-4.

The Scarlet and Gold erased the deficit early in the second half with a three-goal run of their own. The first two came on free position shots; the first from Reinert (7-5 at 24:50) and the second from sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) (7-6 at 24:24), while the third was Reinert's second and came off a feed from O'Leary at 22:28 (7-7). Another give-and-take kept the game even, 9-9, with 7:15 to go. The difference maker came a little over a minute later (6:01), when Dunne completed a play from DiGnazio, 10-9.

Mower's three goals led the Lady Rams' scoring. Dunne, DiGnazio, and senior midfielder Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa.) each scored twice, while sophomore attack Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y.) provided the remaining goal. Senior midfielder Katie Parent (Millville, N.J.) also supplied an assist, but more significant were her five ground balls, three draws, and three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J.) made eight saves and recovered a ground ball in the win (11-1).

Reinert added an assist to her two scores to total a team-high three points for Chestnut Hill College. Keimig, Leckonby, and sophomore attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) were the other three Griffins to score twice. Leckonby stood out from that group with three ground balls, four draws, and a caused turnover. Herron contributed seven draws while Sanders recovered six ground balls and caused two turnovers. Lang took the loss (10-6) despite 11 saves, four ground balls, and a caused turnover.

The Griffins conclude their 2016 regular season schedule on Saturday, April 30, when they host Molloy College in a 3:00 p.m. finale.
