Griffins Forge Four-Game Win Streak With CACC Victory Over Lady Chargers

Box Score Hillburn, N.Y. – (4/5/2016) – Now winners of their last four games, including three against Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) rivals, Chestnut Hill College rolled to a 13-8 league victory this afternoon at Dominican College. The Griffins led by six goals, 9-3, at halftime and expanded their advantage to as many as nine goals, 13-4, before a late Lady Charger rally closed the final margin to five. Junior midfielders Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) and Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) each scored three goals while senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) provided a team-high four points (2 goals and 2 assists).
 
Chestnut Hill College (5-5, 3-0) began to separate from Dominican College (0-9, 0-3) with a five-goal run midway through the first half. Sanders ignited the streak, completing a pass from junior attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) at 22:42, 3-1. Three consecutive unassisted Griffin goals followed as sophomore attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) (4-1 at 22:03), O'Leary (5-1 at 21:36), and Keimig (6-1 at 20:23) each scored before Sanders finished what she started with her second score of the game, 7-1 (12:12). The Lady Chargers bookended the seven-minute mark with a pair of goals (7:22 and 6:45), cutting the deficit to four goals, 7-3. But late first-half tallies from Sanders (8-3 at 4:55) and sophomore midfielder Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) returned the intermission difference back to six scores, 9-3. After the break, the Scarlet and Gold enjoyed another three-goal run that increased their advantage to nine goals, 12-3, just before the 19-minute mark (19:02). Following an exchange of goals the nine-goal lead, 13-4, remained five minutes later (13:52), leaving the Lady Chargers' fleeting attempt at a comeback short on time, 13-8.
 
Junior attacks Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.) and Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) both recorded two goals and an assist for Dominican College, who also received two scores from junior attack Amber June (Stony Point, N.Y.). Fitzgerald provided three ground balls and a draw in addition to her points while Gallagher offered two ground balls, five draws, and a caused turnover in excess of her offensive production. In goal, senior Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) recorded 18 saves while recovering two ground balls and causing a turnover in the losing effort (0-9).
 
Keimig and O'Leary played great two way games; the former additionally reporting a ground ball, a draw, and two caused turnovers while the latter also contributed three ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnovers. Sanders added two ground balls to her hat trick. Galantich (1 goal and 1 assist), Herron (1 goal and 2 assists), and McLaughlin (1 goal and 2 assists) all finished with multiple-point efforts while sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) helped out Keimig and O'Leary with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) earned the win (5-5) and made three saves before freshman goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland Calif.) (3 saves) spelled her for the final 13:52.
 
The Griffins continue their CACC schedule on Saturday, April 9, when they visit Post University for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
