Box Score Lakewood, N.J. – (5/8/2016) – One of the shortcomings in an otherwise marvelous season, #2 Chestnut Hill College reluctantly surrendered the league crown to #1 Philadelphia University today, Sunday, May 8, in an 18-11 Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Championship Final. The Lady Rams used an opening 6-1 run to separate themselves from the Scarlet and Gold, who behind another five-goal effort from senior midfielder
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) organized a late second-half streak that kept the Griffins competitive.
A more experienced Philadelphia University (14-5) side used their familiarity with Chestnut Hill College (11-8) to their advantage and avoided another epic engagement with an early 6-1 run. Initiated by a goal from CACC Player of the Year, senior midfielder Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa.) at 23:15, the Lady Ram run was only interrupted by a Keimig free position goal at 18:13 (2-1) before ending five minutes later (13:25) after a pair of unassisted Philadelphia University scores (14:31 and 14:17, 6-1) and a Keimig-assisted strike from freshman midfielder
Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) that left the margin at four, 6-2. A give-and-take of tallies over the next 13 minutes left the halftime spread as five goals, 10-5, and put the Griffins on the ready for a pivotal second half.
Unfortunately, the difference did not decrease with the start of a new frame as five of the first six goals went in the Lady Rams' favor; 15-6 at 17:09. With the help of junior midfielder
Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.), sophomore attack
Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.), and Reinert, Keimig looked to get something going late with a pair of unassisted scores at 16:51 (15-7) and 9:57 (16-8). But the reinforcements were too little, too late, in an eventual 18-11 championship final.
Senior midfielder Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa.) was one of two Lady Rams to finish with six points. She did so with five goals and an assist while freshman attack Laura Dunne (Collegeville, Pa.) totaled her six points with the reciprocal (one goal and five assists). Four other Lady Rams recorded multiple-point performances including Mower and junior midfielder Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Mower added an assist, a ground ball, three draws, and a caused turnover to two goals while DiGnazio scored four times in excess of three ground balls, a draw, and two caused turnovers. Sophomore attack Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J.) recorded seven saves and an assist in the win (13-1). For the Lady Rams, it is their third CACC Championship, and second in the last three years, under Head Coach George Chis-Luca.

It was Keimig's second straight, and third game of the season, with five goals or more. She added the assist for six points in all, to which she added five draw controls. Reinert was the only other Griffin to record multiple points, offering two goals and an assist in additional to a draw control. O'Leary, Galantich, junior attack
Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), and junior midfielder
Rachel Perry (Gilbertsville, Pa.) accounted for the other Chestnut Hill College goals while and
Jaida Zabala (East Meadow, N.Y.) and senior
Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) captained the defensive effort in front of junior goalkeeper
Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.). Zabala recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover while Weidner collected three ground balls and tracked down a draw control. Lang made six saves and recovered four ground balls in the loss (11-8).
The Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team finishes their first season under Head Coach
Brianne Timony '13 with an 11-8 overall record and an 8-1 standing in CACC play. Both records stand as program-bests at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level.
