Chestnut Hill College (1-8, 0-1) scored the first point of the match on a Gelfan kill, 1-0, however Goldey-Beacom College (2-4, 1-0) rallied to take the lead at 2-1 and held it until the Scarlet and Gold knotted the affair at 8-8 on a Lightning attack error. Unfortunately, Goldey-Beacom College responded with a 9-5 run that forced a Griffin timeout at 17-13. Following the break the Lightning continued to control the set, pacing Chestnut Hill College to a 25-16 final (1-0).
The Lightning led early in the second set as well, 4-1, but again allowed the Griffins catch up at 8-8 on another attacking miscue. The error inspired Chestnut Hill College, who located freshman outside hitter

Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.), and Gelfan before Goldey-Beacom College requested a timeout, down 15-10. The Lightning took a second timeout at 19-11, but by then found themselves out of contention as the Griffins won the set by a 25-19 margin (1-1).

A Goldey-Beacom College service error evened the contest at 24-24 and a second, two points later, knotted the set at 25-25. Unfortunately, a Griffin service error put the Lightning in the catbird seat, which they capitalized on with a closing kill from senior middle hitter Jada Canteen (Newark, Del.).

She was well supported by senior middle hitter Jax Babezki (Warrington, Pa.) – 13 kills on a .419 (13K-0E-31TA) hitting percentage – and Canteen, who scored 11 kills on a .250 (11K-5E-24TA) hitting percentage.
