Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. - (1/27/2018) - Senior center
Chris Evans (Norristown, Pa.) and freshman guard
Rich Dean Jr. (Bensalem, Pa.) established Chestnut Hill College a 39-31 halftime lead over Concordia College (NY), but it was the backcourt combination of senior
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior
Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) that was dynamite in a 50-point second half that earned the Griffins their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season, 89-69. Awl scored 20 of his team-high 23 points in the second half, hitting four threes (4-of-5, .800) in a 5-of-7 (.714) shooting effort that came with a perfect 6-of-6 showing at the free throw line and six rebounds.
Â
The Scarlet and Gold offense worked through Evans early, but it was Awl's only basket of the first half that earned Chestnut Hill College (3-16, 2-10) an eight-point lead, 26-18 (6:18). An Evans jumper kept the margin there (28-20) a little later (5:40), but eventually Concordia College (8-13, 2-10) got their run, reducing the Griffin advantage to a single point, 30-29 (2:45), before Dean drained three consecutive threes in a minutes' time. The first was set up by junior forward
Roman Letterlough (Harrisburg, Pa.) at 2:31 (33-29), the second by Isaac at 2:09 (36-29), and the third on his own at 1:34, expanding the Chestnut Hill College lead to 10 points, 39-29, just before halftime.
Â
Chestnut Hill College eventually took an eight-point, 39-31, lead into the locker rooms. A lead they first squandered, 46-45 (16:35), before Awl got the hot hand in a 50-point Scarlet and Gold second half. He reestablished the Griffin advantage, 48-46 (15:25), with his first three of the frame and just three minutes later (12:25) pushed it to double digits, 58-48, with his third. From there, Chestnut Hill College lead by as many as 23 points, 81-58 (3:53), before leaving the Meyer Athletic Center with a 20-point, 89-69, triumph.
Â
In a poor perimeter performance, junior guard Michael Demello (White Plains, N.Y.) and freshman guard Baron Goodridge (Bronx, N.Y.) combined to hit six of Concordia College's seven threes (7-of-23, .304) and led four Clippers in double figures with 15 points apiece. Fellow guard, junior Cedrick McFadden (Washington, DC) offered 11 points, two rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while junior forward Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) totaled 10 points and seven rebounds.
Awl was efficient, hitting 5-of-7 (.714) threes in a 6-of-9 (.667) shooting performance. He converted all six (6-of-6, 1.000) of his free throws and added in seven rebounds, an assist, and a block for good measure. Evans was just as impressive, finishing 9-of-15 (.600) from the floor and 2-of-4 (.500) from both the three point and free throw lines. He grabbed five rebounds and provided an assist as well. Dean totaled 16 points, a season-high eight rebounds, and two steals, while Isaac joined in the second-half scoring to finish the game with 14 points. He also recorded two rebounds and four assists.
