Box Score Wilmington, Del. - (1/30/2018) – Despite the significant contributions of senior guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior forward
Roman Letterlough (Harrisburg, Pa.), Chestnut Hill College could not catch Goldey-Beacom College in tonight's 87-76 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. Isaac hit 12-of-13 (.923) free throws and led the Scarlet and Gold with 23 points, while Letterlough came off the bench for a season-high 18 points.
Goldey-Beacom College (13-8, 9-3) led Chestnut Hill College (3-17, 2-11) from end-to-end in the league affair, opening with a 19-9 (12:37) stanza before an old fashion three-point play from senior center
Chris Evans (Norristown, Pa.) and a pair of Isaac free throws cut the home lead in half, 21-16, just after the 11-minute mark (10:59). A little more than three minutes later (7:33), an Isaac-Letterlough connection reduced the Lightning lead to its lowest point, 26-22. But that's when Goldey-Beacom College refocused their efforts, reestablishing their double digit advantage, 37-26, at 5:38 and holding a 13-point, 48-35, halftime edge.
At the start of the second half, the Lightning lead grew to as many as 19 points, 59-40 (15:41). A jumper from junior
Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) (59-42, 15:27), a three pointer from junior guard
Cartier Talford (Reading, Pa.) (61-45, 14:46), and five straight points from Isaac cut the margin to 11 points, 61-50, at 13:42. But that was as close as the Griffins got in the second half with Goldey-Beacom College ballooning their advantage back to 15 points, 73-58 (7:40), in an eventual 11-point, 87-76, conclusion.
Junior guard Corey Taite (Sayreville, N.J.) led Goldey-Beacom College with 32 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Three others joined him in doubles figures; junior guard Mahir Johnson (Chester, Pa.) offered 15 points off the Lightning bench, while senior forward Dante Thompson (Coram, N.Y.) and senior forward Chandler Levingston Simon (Vernon Hills, Ill.) scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Isaac added four rebounds, eight assists, and a pair of steals to his seventh game of 20 points or more this season. Letterlough paired his season's best with four rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. Evans was the third Griffin in double figures with 12 points in excess of eight rebounds and a block.
The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 30, when they host Georgian Court University in an 8:00 p.m. CACC contest.
