Isaac Inspires Griffins to 88-68 CACC Win Over Georgian Court University

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/7/2018) – Chestnut Hill College claimed their third victory of the season - and their second by 20 points over a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent – as a solid 26-point effort from senior guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) and complimentary performances from juniors, guard Cartier Talford (Reading, Pa.) and forward Tony Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.) propelled the Scarlet and Gold to a 88-68 league win over Georgian Court University. The Griffins shot well at home, connecting on 32-of-58 (.581) from the floor and 13-of-25 (.520) from three.
 
Chestnut Hill College (4-17, 3-11) led from end-to-end for the first time this season, pacing Georgian Court University (5-18, 5-10) to a 47-34 halftime spread and leading by as many as 30 points, 88-58 (2:35) late in the closing period. Isaac controlled the contest until his late second half respite. He scored 21 of his 26 points in the first half and hit a three pointer to push the Griffins' lead to double digits, 44-34, with 38 seconds (0:38) remaining in the first half. In the second half, the Lions were able to stay competitive until a pair of free throws from junior forward Roman Letterlough (Harrisburg, Pa.) (59-46, 13:05) and a series of timely Talford plays separated the Scarlet and Gold to a 20-point lead, 66-46, by the 11-minute mark (10:58). From there, Chestnut Hill College hit the necessary free throws to render the Lions' rallying efforts futile.
 
Sophomore guard Caleb Bowser (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Georgian Court University with 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Junior forward Nikola Vujovic (Novi Sad, Serbia) was the only other Lions in double figures, scoring 12 points in addition to grabbing five rebounds.
 
Isaac was 9-of-14 (.643) from the floor, 3-of-4 (.750) from three, and 5-of-5 (1.000) from the free throw line in his eighth game of 20 points or more this season. Talford finished with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists, and four steals, while Toplyn totaled 10 points, six rebounds, an assist, and four blocks. Junior guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) was the fourth Griffin in double digits with 13 points in excess of three rebounds and three assists.
 
The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, February 10, when they host Caldwell University in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
