Chester, Pa. - (3/31/2018) – Both the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's track and field teams placed 12
th in their respective competitions at Widener University's Danny Curran Invitational. The Griffin men (12
th of 21) totaled 17 points on the record paces of sophomore
Zigmund Fisher (Chadds Ford, Pa.) and the Scarlet and Gold relay teams, while the Griffin women (12
th of 18) recorded eight points thanks in large part to
Diamond Tucker (Bound Brook, N.J.), whose distance of 4.91 meters earned the Griffins six points in the Long Jump. Her time of 13.47 (11
th) did not earn her any points in the Women's 100-meter run, but it did set a program record.
Tucker had two teammates place behind her in the Women's 100-meter as juniors
Samaria Turner (Coatesville, Pa.) and
Sabrina Castano (Paterson, N.J.) finished 27
th (14.08) and 34
th (15.17), respectively. Turner was also Chestnut Hill College's top performer in the Women's 200-meter (22
nd, 28.12). Freshman
Irene Canizares-Llull (Islas Baleares, Spain) was the top Griffin in the Women's 1,500-meter, placing 20
th with a time of 5:20.43. Junior
Makenzie Hooven (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned Chestnut Hill College in the Women's 5,000-meter, leading a pride of Griffins with her time of 19:40.24 (10
th). Juniors,
Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.) and junior
Erica Waleski (Rockville Centre, N.Y), and freshman
Taylor Neals (Bensalem, Pa.) were immediately behind her, placing 11
th (20:01.39), 12
th (20:21.31), and 13
th (20:32.23), respectively. Castano ran the Women's 100-meter Hurdles in 21.17 (17
th), while freshman
Gracious Klah (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished 20
th (25.64) in the Discus and threw the Shot Put a Scarlet and Gold record, 9.11 (17
th) meters. Junior
Laura Lupin (Danielsville, Pa.) also earned Chestnut Hill College a point with her 8
th place (27.97) throw in the Javelin.
Fisher finished seventh in the Men's 5,000-meter with a Chestnut Hill College record pace of 15:3.51. Additional men's track records were scored in the 4x100-meter Relay – where the Griffins scored eight points with a second place time of 44.12 – and the 4x400-meter Relay – where they earned three points with a sixth place time of 3:39.45. Duncan Malone (Boston, Mass.) and freshman
Harry Davis II (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), who respectively placed 15
th (11.16 meters) and 12
th (38.37 meters) in the Shot Put and the Javelin. Malone earned the Griffins a point with his eighth place (35.12 meters) throw in the Discus.
Sophomore
Aaron Morris (Philadelphia, Pa.) won the other two Chestnut Hill College points with his seventh place (51.84) finish in the Men's 400-meter. He also placed 32
nd (4:18.43) in the Men's 1,500-meter. Junior
James McKeith (Honey Brook, Pa.) led the large Griffin numbers the Men's 200-meter (12
th, 23.07) and Men's 400-meter, where he scored two points for the Scarlet and Gold with his seventh place time of 51.84. Junior
Tayib Inniss (Philadelphia, Pa.) was Chestnut Hill College's top finisher in the Men's 100-meter (11
th, 11.54), senior
Ediegeo Vanterpool II (Clementon, N.J.) ran 17
th (2:03.69) in the Men's 400-meter.
The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's track and field teams compete next on Saturday, April 7, when they visit Rowan University for the Oscar Moore Invitational.
