Chestnut Hill College Track and Field Establishes A Series of Records at Danny Curran Invitational

Zigmund Fisher
Chester, Pa. - (3/31/2018) – Both the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's track and field teams placed 12th in their respective competitions at Widener University's Danny Curran Invitational. The Griffin men (12th of 21) totaled 17 points on the record paces of sophomore Zigmund Fisher (Chadds Ford, Pa.) and the Scarlet and Gold relay teams, while the Griffin women (12th of 18) recorded eight points thanks in large part to Diamond Tucker (Bound Brook, N.J.), whose distance of 4.91 meters earned the Griffins six points in the Long Jump. Her time of 13.47 (11th) did not earn her any points in the Women's 100-meter run, but it did set a program record.

Tucker had two teammates place behind her in the Women's 100-meter as juniors Samaria Turner (Coatesville, Pa.) and Sabrina Castano (Paterson, N.J.) finished 27th (14.08) and 34th (15.17), respectively. Turner was also Chestnut Hill College's top performer in the Women's 200-meter (22nd, 28.12). Freshman Irene Canizares-Llull (Islas Baleares, Spain) was the top Griffin in the Women's 1,500-meter, placing 20th with a time of 5:20.43. Junior Makenzie Hooven (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned Chestnut Hill College in the Women's 5,000-meter, leading a pride of Griffins with her time of 19:40.24 (10th). Juniors, Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.) and junior Erica Waleski (Rockville Centre, N.Y), and freshman Taylor Neals (Bensalem, Pa.) were immediately behind her, placing 11th (20:01.39), 12th (20:21.31), and 13th (20:32.23), respectively. Castano ran the Women's 100-meter Hurdles in 21.17 (17th), while freshman Gracious Klah (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished 20th (25.64) in the Discus and threw the Shot Put a Scarlet and Gold record, 9.11 (17th) meters. Junior Laura Lupin (Danielsville, Pa.) also earned Chestnut Hill College a point with her 8th place (27.97) throw in the Javelin.

Fisher finished seventh in the Men's 5,000-meter with a Chestnut Hill College record pace of 15:3.51. Additional men's track records were scored in the 4x100-meter Relay – where the Griffins scored eight points with a second place time of 44.12 – and the 4x400-meter Relay – where they earned three points with a sixth place time of 3:39.45. Field records were set by senior Duncan Malone (Boston, Mass.) and freshman Harry Davis II (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), who respectively placed 15th (11.16 meters) and 12th (38.37 meters) in the Shot Put and the Javelin. Malone earned the Griffins a point with his eighth place (35.12 meters) throw in the Discus.

Sophomore Aaron Morris (Philadelphia, Pa.) won the other two Chestnut Hill College points with his seventh place (51.84) finish in the Men's 400-meter. He also placed 32nd (4:18.43) in the Men's 1,500-meter. Junior James McKeith (Honey Brook, Pa.) led the large Griffin numbers the Men's 200-meter (12th, 23.07) and Men's 400-meter, where he scored two points for the Scarlet and Gold with his seventh place time of 51.84. Junior Tayib Inniss (Philadelphia, Pa.) was Chestnut Hill College's top finisher in the Men's 100-meter (11th, 11.54), senior Ediegeo Vanterpool II (Clementon, N.J.) ran 17th (2:03.69) in the Men's 400-meter.

The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's track and field teams compete next on Saturday, April 7, when they visit Rowan University for the Oscar Moore Invitational.
