Box Score Sparkill, N.Y. – (4/10/2018) – This evening's men's lacrosse contest went down to the wire and ended with Chestnut Hill College on the wrong side of a 7-6 overtimes decision as St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) scored the final the goals on their home field. Freshman attack
J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) and sophomore attack
Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) scored two goals apiece, the former added two assists, four ground balls, and a caused turnover to finish the contest as the Griffins' top performer.
STAC (5-6) scored the only goal of the first quarter (1-0, 10:02), before Chestnut Hill College (4-7) bookended the Spartans' second quarter score with tallies from Wilden (1-1, 10:30) and Klusaritz (2-2, 5:20). The Griffins grabbed their first lead of the contest early in the second half, 3-2 (11:31), when Howell netted his first tally just 3:29 into the third quarter. But STAC tied the contest at 3-3 on a man-up goal at 5:33 and assumed the edge with an unassisted score at 3:26, 4-3. Fortunately, Wilden struck with just 51 seconds (0:51) remaining in the third quarter, completing a Howell pass to even the spread again at 4-4. In the fourth quarter, the Scarlet and Gold took control of the contest just past the eight-minute mark as back-to-back goals from Howell (5-4, 7:42) and senior midfielder
Gerard Lyle (Baldwin, N.Y.) gave the Griffins a 6-4 advantage with 7:17 remaining in regulation. Relentless, the Spartans scored twice in the final two minutes (1:52, 1:37) to force overtime, 6-6. There, they used the momentum to seize the victory, netting the game-winning-goal just 1:29 into the extra frame, 7-6.
Senior attack Briele Caples (Rochester, N.Y.) led STAC with four goals, an assist, three ground balls, and nearly half (14) of their 30 shots. Sophomore midfielders, Tyler Senatore (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) and Paul Rhodes (Highland, N.Y.) were responsible for the other three Spartan goals; the former scored two of them, including the game-winner. In goal, junior Ryan Mello (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) (5-6) made 11 saves and recovered two ground balls.
Senior attack

Kyle Newman (Plainsboro, N.J.) and goalkeeper
Matthew Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.) headlined the Scarlet and Gold backfield. Newman totaled three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Pedrick (3-7) made nine saves and collected a ground ball.
