Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/21/2020) – The Philadelphia-Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) announced today, Tuesday, April 21, the members of the 2019-2020 Philadelphia Inquirer Men's At-Large Academic All-Area Team (.PDF). Chestnut Hill College senior quarterback Michael Marino (Blue Bell, Pa.) was one of 10 local student-athletes to the earn recognition on the local all-scholastic roster. The 2020 Men's At-Large Performer of the Year honors were split between University of Pennsylvania (Penn) junior squasher Andrew Douglas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Drexel University senior wrestler Ebed Jarrell (East Greenwich, R.I.).
 
Douglas, Jarrell, and Marino were joined on the academic all-area team by three of Douglas' fellow Quakers in senior fencer Adam Green (Chevy Chase, Md.), junior defensive back/wide receiver Aaron Johnson (Columbia, Md.), and sophomore fencer Xiteng "Steven" Lin (Guangzhou, China), a duo from the Haverford College fencing team; sophomore Nicholas Conroy (Ashland, Mass.) and senior Kadan Lottick (Woodbridge, Conn.), and senior Daniel Van Beveren (Chesapeake, Va.) from the Ford cricket team, as well as, La Salle University water polo junior Daniel Domotor (Budapest, Hungry). The Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams are selected annually by the sports information offices of 30 collegiate institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area known as Philly-SIDA. In order to be nominated, student-athletes are required to maintain a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) or better while competing in their sport of choice.
 
Penn's top player, Douglas is a three-time All-IVY First Team selection who garnered a first-team College Squash Association (CSA) All-American in his senior season. Meanwhile, Jarrell earned his third Philadelphia Inquirer academic accolade after offering the Dragons an 18-7 record that included a perfect 5-0 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) slate.
 
Marino's been a major contributor to the Chestnut Hill College sprint football program, but he may have saved his best year for his last. The senior play caller produced a league-leading 203.7 passing yards per game, while offering 1,426 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 128.4 efficiency rating to the Griffins' 5-2 (2-2 CSFL South) Collegiate Spring Football League (CSFL) finish.
 
The 2016 CSFL Freshman of the Year and 2017 Chestnut Hill College Sprint Football Most Valuable Player (MVP) is a three-year captain (2017, 2018, 2019) and a four-time All-CSFL selection (HM: 2016, 2018, 2nd Team: 2017, 2019).
 
Academically, Marino was named to the 2019 CSFL All-Academic Team and has been a four-time member of both the Chestnut Hill College Dean's List (Fall 2016, Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Fall 2019) and Athletics Academic Honor Roll (Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Fall 2018, Fall 2019. He one of three Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives from the sprint football team and was a 2019 Chi Alpha Sigma (National College Athlete Honor Society) inductee.
