Seven Chestnut Hill Athletes Named to All-CSFL Football Team

Seven members of the Chestnut Hill College Sprint Football Team earned all-conference accolades from the Collegiate Sprint Football League in announcement made by the league office Wednesday morning.

The seven players are led by punter Hank Gallacher  and defensive back Ryan Jakeman who earned All-CSFL first Team Defense honors.  Luke Attanasi earned All-CSFL Second Team Defense honors while four others, Anthony Broderick, Lonnie Cebulski, Colby Goldsmith and Meech Laylor were honorable mention selections.

Gallacher had the leagues best average as a punter with a Chestnut Hill single season record of 36.7 yards per kick. The freshman punter also set a school record for total punting yards in a season with 1,504 and most punts in game with 10 against Navy. Gallacher also tied a school record with a 64-yard punt against Cornell, earning a spot on the CSFL Weekly Honor Roll for his accomplishment.   Eight of his punts were received or downed inside the 20-yard line and had five punts of 50 yards or more.  In addition to his punting duties, Gallacher was the team's kicker, averaging 47.4 yards per kickoff attempt while booting two field goals and two extra points during the seven-game season.

Jakeman, a junior defensive back, led the team with eight tackles for loss and was the team's co-leader with 3.5 sacks.  Jakeman averaged 6.8 tackles per game to rank seventh in the CSFL. He finished the season with 27 tackles.   Four of his tackles for loss came in the Griffins'  win against Alderson-Broaddus.

A junior linebacker, Attanasi led the Griffins with 47 tackles on the season, including 4.5 for loss.  Attanasi also recorded a sack, had one forced fumble and two pass breakups. His 6.7 tackles/game averaged was the eighth highest total in the CSFL in 2021.

Cebulski, a sophomore receiver playing in his first sprint football season caught nine passes on the season for 116 yards.  In addition he rushed for 63 yards and had 94 yards on kickoff returns.  Eighty-six of those yards came on one play against St. Thomas Aquinas where he returned the game's opening kickoff for a touchdown, setting a school record for the longest kickoff return in program history in the process.  For his efforts Cebulski was named the CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week.  He also earned a spot on the conference weekly honor roll following week one. Cebulski finished the season with 212 yards of total offense and 273 all-purpose yards.

A freshman running back, Broderick led the team with 290 yards rushing on the season, averaging  6.04 yards per carry and recording two touchdowns.  His 290 yards was second on the team in total offense while also finishing second on the team with 319 all-purpose yards.  Broderick had a season-high 92 yards rushing against the University of Pennsylvania in October, including a school-record 79-yard carry, which earned him a spot on the CSFL Weekly  honor roll for his efforts.

Laylor, a freshman defensive back was fourth on the team with 34 tackles and recorded the team's only interception during the season.  Laylor recorded a career-high 13 tackles against St. Thomas Aquinas, earning him a spot on the CSFL Weekly Honor roll for his efforts  

Goldsmith, a junior defensive back was second on the team with 43 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss.  He also led the team with four pass breakups.

The Chestnut Hill Sprint Football team finished their 2021 campaign with a 1-6 record.
