The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team faces third consecutive regionally ranked opponent when they host Post University on Saturday afternoon in the third game of a five-game homestand. The game will be a battle between the CACC South (Chestnut Hill) and CACC North (Post) first place teams in their respective division.
The Series
Saturday's game will be the 15
th meeting between Post and Chestnut Hill. Post leads the all-time series 8-6 and has won the last three contests dating back to the 2018-19 season. The Griffins are 2-3 at Sorgenti Arena against the Eagles with their last win coming on January 4, 2017, a 108-80 triumph.
Conference Action
Chestnut Hill is off to its best start in conference play since becoming a member of the CACC in 2007-08, with a 7-0 conference record and are sitting alone in first place in the CACC South Division. The Griffins have held conference opponents to just 51.0 points per game en route to their 7-0 CACC record. Post enters Saturday's game with a 5-1 conference record, sitting in first place in the CACC North Division following a 56-32 win over Caldwell University on Thursday.

The Griffins enter Tuesday's game with a 13-3 overall record following a 51-41 win over #22 University of the Sciences. Chestnut Hill's 13-3 start to the season and 7-0 conference record is their best record to start a season since joining the NCAA in 1996.

Emily Chmiel leads the team with six double-doubles (2
nd in the CACC and is averaging 12.3 points per game. Chmiel leads the CACC in total blocks (30) and ranks among the conference top five in three additional statistical categories, including total rebounds (2

th, 45). Chmiel is third on the team with 17 steals and has appeared in all 16 games. Chmiel has earned CACC Rookie of the Week three times and CACC Defensive Player of the Week twice.
Point guard
Cassie Sebold is also averaging double figures, scoring 11.4 points per game. She leads the team with 79 assists (2
nd in CACC, 14
th in NCAA) and is second on the team lead with 19 steals. Sebold is also second on the team with 16 three-point field goals made on the season, while appearing in 14 of 16 games this season.
Lauren Crim leads the team with 22 three point field goals and is averaging 6.8 points per game. Crim also is tied for third in assist/turnover ratio with a 2.0 average along with teammate
Morgan Orloski. Orloski is also shooting 34.8% from beyond the three-point arc, and 43.2% from the field overall.
Bri Hewlett has started the last eight games and scoring double-digit points in six of the eight. Hewlett is averaging 6.2 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game. She had a season-high eight rebounds and five field goals in the Griffins last game on 1/11 at Georgian Court.
Lindsey Lane has started all 16 games and is shooting a solid 44.9% from the field while averaging 4.7 points per game. Lane has made a season-high six field goals against Georgian Court and Felician.
Kaitlyn Carter has also appeared in all 16 games, starting four. She has ten steals in Chestnut Hill's last five games and leads the team with 20. She had a season high 11 points vs. Felician on January 8 and has been a stalwart on defense effectively shutting down the best player in each of the Griffins' last three games for most of the contest.
Missing is
Leah Miller's 16 points and 10 rebounds per game average. Miller was among the conference leaders in both categories before an injury cut short her season after eight games.
Last Time Out
A dominating fourth quarter defense and some solid shooting led the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team to their biggest win of the season as they upset nationally ranked University of the Sciences 51-41 Tuesday at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins, winners of seven straight games, improve to 13-3 overall and 7-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. CHC's 13-3 start to the season an 7-0 conference record as program bests since becoming an NCAA member as is their seven game win streak. The Devils fall to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in league play.
The Griffins held the Devils to their lowest point total in nearly four years. USciences scored 41 points in a 41-32 win over Goldey-Beacom in February 2018. The last time the Devils scored 41 or fewer points in a loss came in January 2016 when Bloomfield College held USciences to just 29 points in a 52-29 win.
Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.) and
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) scored ten points apiece to pace the Griffins with Sebold recording a double-double with ten rebounds. The senior guard also added five assists.
Emily Chmiel (Doylestown, Pa.) added eight points, six rebounds and five blocks.
Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) also had eight points while grabbing five rebounds.
Trailing 38-34 heading into the fourth quarter, the Griffins turned up the defense, holding the Devils to just three free throws over the first 3:02. Meanwhile the Griffins made three of their first four shots to tie the game at 41-41 with 6:14 remaining. Sebold started things off with a three-point basket and Lane gave the Griffins a brief 39-38 lead before USciences made their three free throws to retake the lead 41-39. Chmiel's jumper at the 6:14 mark tied the score at 41-41 and the Chestnut Hill defense did not allow another USciences point the rest of the way as they finished the game on a 10-0 run. The Devils were held without a field goal in the quarter, missing all 11 of their shot attempts, while making six of 11 shots on their end of the court and all four of their free throw attempts.

Carter Named CACC Defensive Player of the Week; Hewlett named to Conference Honor Roll
Chestnut Hill Women's Basketball player
Kaitlyn Carter was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Griffins' two games last week.
In addition,
Bri Hewlett was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for her performance on the court last week.
Opening the week against Georgian Court University, Carter had the task of guarding the CACC's leading Scorer, Anyssa Fields. When the two players were on the court at the same time, Carter held Fields to zero points on 0-for-6 shooting. The sophomore guard also recorded two steals and two blocks in the game while grabbing four defensive rebounds.
Two days later against regionally ranked #6 Jefferson University, Carter again guarded one of the Rams best players, Haley Meinel. Meinel was averaging between 12 and 13 shots per game but Carter limited the senior to just four total shots while playing all 40 minutes. Carter also led the Griffins with 16 points and had two steals, six defensive rebounds and four assists.
For the week, Carter averaged five rebounds, two steals and one block per game on the defensive end and ten points and three assists per game offensively.
Hewlett scored double figures in both games for the Griffins last week. Against Georgian Court, the senior forward had 13 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. She also had a steal and an assist in 27 minutes of playing time while shooting 50% from the field.
In the Jefferson game, Hewlett was 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the field and was one of four players in double figures with 14 points. She also had four rebounds, one block and one assist.
For the week, Hewlett averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52.2% (12-23) from the field.

Moving up the Ranks
In the Griffins' last game against USciences,
Cassie Sebold moved into 6
th place on the Griffins all-time scoring list, passing Olivia Gorczynski '15 (1,107 pts.). Sebold needs six points to pass Griffin great and now assistant coach Lindsey Alexander who scored 1,116 points during her career (2009-13).
Lauren Crim, with her five three-point field goals against Wilmington on January 5, moved into fourth place on the Griffin's all-time three-point field goals made list with 162 for her career, passing Beth Ann Castone who sank 158 over her four-year career. Currently Crim has 166 career three-point baskets. (Ruairi Sullivan, a 2014 Griffins Hall of Fame inductee who played for Chestnut Hill from 1996-2000 is the Griffin's all-time leader with 239.)

Scouting the Eagles
The Eagles are ranked tenth in the most recent D2SIDA East Region poll and moved back into first place in the CACC North Division with a 56-32 win over Caldwell Thursday night. Post has a 10-2 overall record an is 5-1 in league play.
Post leads the league with 114 three-point field goals made and is averaging a league best 44.3 rebounds per game. The Eagles 70.5 points per game average in second in the conference behind Dominican's 71.4. The team is second in the league in steals per game (10.6) and also second behind the Griffins in rebound margin (3.2)
Kyla Ramseur is one of three eagles players averaging double figures, leading the team with a 13.1 points per game average. She also leads the team with 40 assists and 26 three-point field goals
Sha'raya Haines also has made 26 three point field goals and is second on the team averaging 11.5 points per game. Haines is also second on the team, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game. Jaeonna Sutton rounds out the Eagles double figure scorers, averaging 10.0 points per game and is second on the team with 19 steals.
Makayla Thompson leads the team in steals with 32 and is averaging 9.8 points per game. Tai Pagan leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.2 per game. She is also the team's best shooter at 55.1% from the field. She leads the team in blocks with 25.
Last Time Out for Post
Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team held Caldwell to 22 percent shooting in a decisive 56-32 win over the Cougars in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division matchup on Thursday evening at the Drubner Center.
The 32 points the Eagles gave up is tied for the least amount of points given up in a game in the program's history. They gave up 32 in a 75-32 win over Wilmington on January 31, 2004.
The win moves the Eagles to 10-3 on the season and 4-1 in the CACC and vaults them back to first place in the North Division.
Post forced 19 turnovers and outrebounded the Cougars 62-40, led by
Tai Pagan and
Roxkel Washington who had 14 apiece. On the offensive end,
Amaya Santiago scored a season-high 21 and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Eagles never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 5-0 lead – all courtesy of Santiago – to begin the game.
Jaeonna Sutton hit two threes in the first quarter, helping the Eagles take a 15-6 lead heading into the second.
After the Cougars trimmed a once eight-point lead – 22-14 - to a three-point game, Post responded with a three from
Makayla Thompson and a jumper from
Kyla Ramseur to go into the half leading 27-19. Thompson hit two threes in the quarter.
In the third, the Eagles held the Cougars to just six points on 2-for-16 shooting while the Eagles increased their lead to 45-25. Santiago went 5-for-7 from the field in the quarter, scoring 11 points to go along with two steals and five rebounds.
Post never led by less than 18 in the final quarter and held the Cougars (10-6, 5-2 CACC) to just seven points over the final ten minutes.
To go along with her season-high in rebounds, Pagan also had four blocks, eight points and two steals. Washington scored six points to go along with her career-high rebounding night.
Post has won three straight games against Caldwell and four of their last five.
