The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) unveiled its 2021-22 CACC Team Academic Award winners on Wednesday, as seven schools combined to take home the 16 honors for the 2021-22 academic year. with the Griffins' men's cross country and women's basketball teams among the 16 programs receiving a team Academic Award.
The announcement was made by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara. The school with the highest team grade point average in each of the league's 16 championship sports during the 2021-22 campaign was crowned the Team Academic Award winner for that specific sport. Teams must have met NCAA sport sponsorship minimum standards to be eligible to earn the academic awards.
The CACC Team Academic Awards are the Griffins' first since the 2018-19 season
The men's cross-country program topped all other conference programs with a team g.p.a. of 3.531 during the academic year. Five first year runners made up the 2021 men's cross country team with all five having a g.p.a. of 3.0 or better in the 2021-22 academic year with
Jason Fisher, Cole Stanchina and Christopher Nelson leading the way.
The women's basketball team had a team g.p.a. of 3.453 to lead the conference. Five members of the 2021-22 team were also named to the CACC Women's Basketball All Academic Team, led by seniors
Bri Hewlett, Morgan Orloski and
Leah Miller. The trio were joined on the all-academic team by juniors
Lauren Crim and
Lindsey Lane. Twelve of the 15 athletes listed on the women's basketball squad list at the start of the season recorded a 3.0 g.p.a. of better for the entire 2021-22 academic year.
In addition to the men's cross country and women's basketball team, eight additional Chestnut Hill College athletic teams earned a team g.p.a. of 3.0 or better for the academic year.
