The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team begins a key three-game road series Wednesday night when they travel to Orangeburg, New York to face Dominican College. The Griffins are looking to extend their winning streak and keep their CACC record unblemished in the key crossover contest with the Chargers.
The Series
Wednesday's contest will be the 14
th game between Chestnut Hill and Dominican. The Chargers hold an 8-5 lead in the all time series and have won the last two times the two teams played at the Hennessy Center. The Griffins last win in Orangeburg cam in the 2014-15 season when the Griffins won 70-50. CHC is 1-5 all time on Dominican's home court.
Conference Action
Chestnut Hill currently sits in first place in the CACC South Division with an 12-0 conference record. They are two games ahead of second place USciences and 3 games ahead of third place Jefferson. The Griffins became the first team in the CACC to clinch a playoff berth with their win over Bloomfield on Saturday. Dominican has a 6-6 conference record and sits in fourth place in a tight CACC north Division, just 1½ games behind division leader Felician University
Winning Streak Continues…
Chestnut Hill extended their winning streak to a program record 13 games with their win over Bloomfield on Saturdayday. The streak is currently the longest in the D2 East Region and tied for the fifth longest current streak among all NCAA Division II Schools (Glenville St at 20-0 on the season is the longest) The Griffins also have the longest winning streak among all Philadelphia area schools.
Griffins Remain #5 in Latest D2SIDA East Region Poll
Philadelphia, Pa. - The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team, following their 2-0 week last week remain in the #5 spot for the third consecutive week in the latest Division 2 Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) East Region poll, released Monday afternoon. The poll is voted on by representatives of each of the three conference that make up the East Region: The Central Atlantic Collegiate conference, The Northeast-10 conference and the East Coast Conference.
This week's ranking marks the seventh consecutive week that the Chestnut Hill Women's Basketball team has either been ranked or has received votes in the poll.

The Griffins enter Saturday's game with an 19-3 overall record and an 12-0 CACC record following their 81-42 win over Bloomfield on Saturday, extending their winning streak to a program best 13 games. Chestnut Hill's 19-3 overall and 12-0 conference record is their best record at this point of the season since joining the NCAA in 1996 and equals their program record for most wins in a season (19-10 in 2004-05 and 2017-18)
Among the Griffins' active players,
Emily Chmiel leads the team with nine double-doubles (2
nd in CACC) and is averaging 12.0 points per game. Chmiel leads the CACC in total blocks (37) and is 2
nd in total rebounds (185) while ranking among the conference top eight in eight additional statistical categories, including blocks/game (3
rd, 1.7), free throws made (7
th, 57) and rebounds/game (5
th, 8.4). Chmiel is third on the team with 19 steals. Emily earned CACC rookie of the Week honors for her performance last week now has earned CACC Rookie of the Week five times while also being named CACC Defensive Player of the Week three and CACC player of the Week once
Point guard
Cassie Sebold is also averaging double figures, scoring 11.6 points per game. She leads the team with 114 assists (2
nd in CACC, 9
th in NCAA) and is tied for the team lead with 24 steals. Sebold is also second on the team with 27 three-point field goals made on the season, while appearing in all but two games this season. Cassie is shooting 85.5% from the free throw line (3
rd best mark in the CACC) and has two double doubles on the season.
Bri Hewlett moved into a starting role on 12/8 and has scored in double figures eight of the Griffins last 11 games. Hewlett is averaging 8.1 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. She had a career night against Holy Family on 1/26, recording 23 points (8 FG, 4 3pt. FG) and 12 rebounds to lead the Griffins. She followed that with another double-double against Nyack College 12 points and a career-best 16 rebounds. She earned CACC Weekly honor roll accolades twice this season.
Lauren Crim leads the team with 35 three-point field goals following her seven three-point field goals in the Griffins two games last week and is averaging 7.3 points per game. Crim is also shooting 81.8% from the free throw line and ranks among the top five in the CACC in assist/turnover ratio with a mark of 1.7
Lindsey Lane has started all 22 games and is shooting 43.4% from the field while averaging 5.4 points per game. Lane has made a season-high six field goals against Georgian Court and Felician and had a career-high 15 points vs. Felician.
Abbey Spratt has also started all 22 games and has been the backcourt defensive stalwart usually guarding one of the opponents better players. Spratt is second on the team with seven blocks and 39 assists.
Kaitlyn Carter has also appeared in all 22 games, starting four. She is tied for the team lead with 24 steals and is averaging 4.0 points/game. Carter had a career-high 16 points in the Griffins' win over Jefferson on Jan. 13 and has also been a stalwart on defense effectively shutting down a top offensive player on the opposing team in each of the last ten games. Her efforts earned her CACC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending January 16 when she held the league's leading scorer without a basket in CHC's win at Georgian Court.

Philadelphia, Pa. Four players reached double figures as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team secured a spot as one of the top four teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division as they won their 13
th straight game, cruising to an 81-42 victory over Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia.
The Griffins improve to 19-3 overall, tying the school mark for wins in a season and remain unbeaten in conference play with a 12-0 record. Chestnut Hill's 13 game winning streak is currently the longest in the east region this season. The Bears fall to 3-17 overall and 1-11 in league play.
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) led all scorers with 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-6 3FG) in just 18 minutes of playing time.
Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.) had 12 points and nine rebounds while
Emily Chmiel (Doylestown, Pa.) recorded her league leading ninth double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.
Trinity Brittingham (Middletown, Del.) also reached double figures with a career high 12 points. Sebold added four assists and six rebounds.
Sebold's 14 points move her past Beth Ann Castone (2003-06) and into third place on the Griffins' all-time scoring list with 1,187 points. Her four three-point baskets this afternoon also move her past Castone into 5th place on the Griffins' all time list with 160 for her career.
Emily Sekerak (New Tripoli, Pa.) continued her solid play with eight points, seven rebounds and a career high four blocks while
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) added nine points and
Brianna Rider (Nottingham, Md.) chipped in six.
Kaitlyn Carter (Philadelphia, Pa.) dished out four assists, tying Sebold for team-high honors.
The Griffins led this game wire-to-wire as Hewlett started off the scoring with a three-point bucket with Chestnut Hill jumping out to an 18-4 lead. Sebold scored five points in the opening six minutes while
Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) and
Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) each contributed a layup. Crim and Hewlett capped off the run with three-point field goals.
The Griffins expanded the lead to 23-8 after the first quarter and 45-24 at half time. Chestnut Hill's defense held the Bloomfield to just two field goals and four points in the third quarter as they built a 61-28 advantage. Chestnut Hill took just 11 shots In the fourth quarter, making seven of them (63.6%) with Brittingham's layup with 1:28 left in the game giving the Griffins their biggest lead of the game at 81-40.
The Griffins defense held the Bears' three leading scorers to a total of just ten points on 4-for-19 shooting. The game marks the eighth time this season that Chestnut Hill has held an opponent to 50 or fewer points. Over the course of the Griffins' 13-game winning streak they have held opponents to an average of 49.5 points per game.
For the game the Griffins shot 48.4% (31-64) from the field while holding Bloomfield to just 23.3% (17-73). CHC's 31 field goals is a season-high as is their 11 three-point baskets made on the afternoon. The Griffins also recorded season highs for assists (23) and blocked shots (10).
Chmiel and Sebold Earn CACC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
Emily Chmiel and
Cassie Sebold were again recognized by the Central Atlantic collegiate conference for their performances in their two games last week as the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team completed another perfect week with two wins.
Chmiel (Doylestown, Pa.) was named the CACC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season while
Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) garnered her second CACC Weekly honor Roll selection.
In two games last week, Chmiel averaged 9.5 points per game while shooting 60% from the field. The freshman forward played an average of 16 minutes a game.
Chmiel recorded her ninth double-double of the season against Bloomfield College, tying her for the league lead at the time. She scored 12 points and grabbed ten rebounds while recording two blocks, two assists and a steal.
Earlier in the week against Goldey-Beacom, Chmiel scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds in just ten minutes of action.
For the week, Chmiel finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds and added two blocks, two steals and an assist.
Sebold recorded her second double-double of the season with 22 points and a season-high ten assists as the Griffins defeated the Lightning 79-53. The senior guard was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and 6-11 from the field (54.5%).
On Saturday, Sebold played just 18 minutes but scored 14 points, moving her into third place on the Griffins' all-time scoring list with 1,184 career points. She also made four three point field goals to move into 5
th place on the Griffins all-time list for three-point field goals made with 160.
For the week, Sebold averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 57.9% (11-19) from the field, including a 6-10 effort (60%) from three-point range.

Cassie Sebold moved into 3
rd place on the Griffins all-time scoring list last week with 1,184 points passing Beth Ann Castone who scored 1,174 from 2002-2006 (NCAA DIII era). Sebold now needs 94 more points to pass Ruairi Sullivan (1,277 pts.) and move into third place on the Griffins' all-time list. Sebold also moved into 5
th place on the Griffins' All-Time Three-Point Field Goals made list with 160 for her career (also passing Castone who had 158) and 2

Scouting the Chargers
The highly potent Dominican College offense is averaging 73.5 points per game. The Chargers are led by a trio of players averaging double figures.
Taylor Tomlinson is shooting 51.2% from the field and is averaging 15.8 points per game. And 6,2 rebounds per game. She leads the team with 26 blocks. Alexis Suarez is averaging 13.0 points per game and leads the team with 88 assists and 71 steals. Khay'la Latimer rounds out the double figure scorers, averaging 12.3 points per game. Latimer's 57 three point baskets leads the team and she is shooting 42.5% from beyond the arc.
Tasnasha Mills has started 20 games and is averaging 7.8 points per game and 3.1 assists per game. Samantha McClutchy and Oliivia Levy are also averaging over 20 minutes a game for the chargers. McClutchy is averaging 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while Levy is averaging 5.0 points per game and 2.5 assists per game.
Last Time Out for Dominican
Lakewood, N.J. (2/5/22) The Dominican College women's basketball team fell to the Lions of Georgian Court University by a score of 82-78.
The Lady Chargers now hold a record of 11-11 (6-6 CACC) and the Lions improve to 7-11 (4-7 CACC).
Taylor Tomlinson led the way for the Lady Chargers with 22 points and added four rebounds. Alexis Suarez finished with 15 points and recorded team-highs in assists with five and steals with five.
Tanasha Mills finished with 10 points while Khay'la Latimer and Olivia Levy each added eight points. Levy recorded a team-high 10 rebounds. Samantha McClutchy contributed seven points along with seven rebounds.
The Lady Chargers shot 44.1% from the field as a team. Both teams played a close first half. The Lady Chargers held a 21-20 lead after the first quarter.
DC led for most of the second quarter and held their largest lead of the first half which was five points. After a low scoring second quarter, DC held a 35-31 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Chargers increased their lead to nine points which was their largest of the game.
In the fourth quarter, GCU outscored DC 29-19 to help earn the comeback victory. The Lions went on a 17-7 run to finish the game.
