Bruhn and Maniscalco Garner CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards

New Haven, Conn. - (9/9/2019) – Senior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) had an impressive opening week for Chestnut Hill College, recording the game-winner and an assist in the Griffins’ 3-1 win over Stonehill College on September 5, before providing the Scarlet and Gold’s only goal in a 2-1 double-overtime loss to East Stroudsburg University on September 7. Bruhn finished the week with five points (2 goals, 1 assist) and 10 shots to earn a share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award. His classmate, goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned the CACC Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week award with his seven saves in the win over Stonehill College.

Chestnut Hill College opened the 2019 season in victorious fashion on Thursday, September 5, as a set of second-half goals helped the Griffins overcome Stonehill College in a 3-1 final. Bruhn was the star of the contest for the Scarlet and Gold, netting the game-winner on a free kick at 57:16 and locating senior defenseman Andrew Johnstone (Liverpool, England) for an insurance tally at 61:12. The Griffins owned a 24-11 shot advantage by game's end, improving a slight 9-8 first half margin with 15 second half shots. Bruhn led the effort with six shots, while Maniscalco (1-0) totaled seven saves in the win.

After over 100 minutes (101:20) of intense competition, it was a well-played cross from graduate student Teun Jacobs (Arcen, Netherlands) to junior forward Michael Tolley (York, Pa.) that gave East Stroudsburg University nod over Chestnut Hill College, 2-1, on Saturday, September 7. The Warriors scored the first goal of the game on a restart midway through first half (1-0, 24:30) only for Bruhn to even the contest, 1-1, at the 34-minute mark (34:00) with a brilliant corner kick goal. Bruhn took four shots, including his successful corner kick. But he did not lead the Griffin offense in opportunities as senior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) offer five strikes at the Warrior goal.
