Bruhn Back on CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Report With Four Points in Double-Overtime Win Against Cougars
New Haven, Conn. - (10/2/2019) – Chestnut Hill College senior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) returned to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Weekly Report with an Honor Roll recognition. Bruhn totaled four points (1 goal, 2 assists) in a thrilling 5-4, double-overtime victory over league-rival Caldwell University on Saturday, September 28. Earlier in the week, he recorded a shot and served seven corners in a 4-1 CACC loss to Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday, September 25.
Chestnut Hill College (2-2-1, 1-1) continued their CACC on Tuesday, September 25, with a late-afternoon contest at Goldey-Beacom College (4-3-0, 2-0). The Griffins had the first couple opportunities of the contest as Bruhn lined up corner kicks at 2:08 and 4:33. Regrettably, both sailed through the box without a Griffin connecting on a shot. Conversely, the Lightning made the most of their first chance, capitalizing on a corner kick at 5:53 with a successful cross at 7:05 (0-1). The Scarlet and Gold looked to recover in the minutes that followed, but they were not able to even the score until freshman forward Luciano Torres (Tucuman, Argentina) and sophomore midfielder David Cortez (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) connected midway through the 42nd-minute (1-1, 41:30). Play remained tied into the second half, but only temporarily as the Lightning struck on three consecutive shots at 56:30 (1-2), 62:15 (1-3), and 65:00 (1-4); 4-1.
The week concluded with a thrilling 5-4, double-overtime victory over Caldwell University (0-7, 0-3) on Saturday, September 28. Bruhn, who also picked up two assists in the win, was one of five different goal scorers for the Griffins. The Cougars got on the board first with a 19-yard blast directly off the free kick in the third minute (2:35). Chestnut Hill College started to take control following the Caldwell University opener, with first-half goals from Torres (1-1. 4:03), freshman midfielder Cesar May Casteneda (Exton, Pa.) (2-1, 9:22), and senior defender Connor Bethel (Hartsville, Pa.) (3-1, 34:16). The Cougars answered before the end of the half to cut their deficit to 3-2, but junior forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) was slipped in behind the defense just 10 minutes into the second half to re-extend the Griffins' lead to two; 4-2 (54:58). Unfortunately, the resilient Cougars came back again as they tallied a third goal in the 66th minute (4-3, 65:28) and their fourth goal in the 79th minute (78:16). Chances came and went in the two overtime periods, but a foul at the top of the box set up Bruhn to give the Griffins the win, 5-4, off a restart at 109:31.
