Scarlet and Gold Foursome Scores CACC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Recognition
New Haven, Conn. - (3/17/2020) – Despite enduring a 19-6 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Thursday, March 12, senior attack Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.), senior defenseman Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.), freshman attack Emily Abe (Hagerstown, Md.), and freshman goalkeeper Mel Amador (Cape May, N.J.) all earned recognition on the most recent Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll.
STAC (5-2) jumped of Chestnut Hill College (0-3) by a 6-0 measure before the Griffins could finally get on the scoreboard with a goal from freshman midfielder Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.); 6-1 (16:01). Off the goal, the Scarlet and Gold was able to slow the upstart visitors momentarily, but the Spartans eventually closed the half with three goals to take a 13-3 lead into intermission. Chestnut Hill College held STAC for the early portion of the second half, using two Fitzgerald tallies to get back within single digits, 13-5 (22;23), of the Spartans. But the visitors found their form again, finishing the game with a 6-1 run; 19-6.
Fitzgerald had a season-high five goals, two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover. Shinkowitz hustled to four ground balls and caused two turnovers, Abe assisted on a Fitzgerald goal (13-4, 24:09), while recording three ground balls, and two caused turnovers, and Amador made 13 saves and recovered a ground ball. For Fitzgerald, it was her second of three games with four goals or more. She finishes the season with a team-high 10 goals. Amador’s 13-save effort was her third of at least 10 goals or more.
