McDonough Receives CACC Rookie of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. – (11/28/2012) – Playing her role in the Chestnut Hill College backcourt,  freshman guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) provided 4.5 points-per-game (PPG), 5.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG), three assist, and two blocks in a rough 0-2 week for the Griffins. McDonough finished the with six points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in a 53-32 loss at St. Anselm College on Saturday, November 24, and then offered three points, six rebounds, and an assist in a 56-51 loss at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) on Sunday, November 25.

Chestnut Hill College (1-5) and St. Anselm College took turns controlling first-half action at Stoutenburgh Gym as the hosting Hawks soared to a 16-3 advantage before allowing the Griffins to respond with a 16-6 run of their own. After settling for a 22-19 first-half spread, the Hawks started the second half with a 16-5 separating offensive that eventually precipitated their 21-point victory, 53-32. Providing energy off the bench, McDonough and junior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) led the Griffins. McDonough finished with six points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.

The next day at SNHU Fieldhouse, the Griffins came from behind, once again, to make the contest against the Penmen a competitive one. The Penmen led by as many as 15 at halftime, 34-19, only to allow the Griffins back into the affair and then narrowly escape with a five-point victory, 56-51. McDonough hit a free throw in a pivotal stretch that saw senior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) score seven points to bring the Griffins within two point, 51-49 late (1:26). Unfortunately, the Penmen had just enough left in the tank as they hit a three-pointer and the necessary free throws to endure the Griffins revival, 56-51. McDonough contributed three points, six rebounds, and an assist to the Griffin effort.

The women's basketball team returns home to resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Bloomfield College on Saturday, December 1.
