Revak and Melnick Receive CACC Men’s Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week Awards

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/27/2021) – Chestnut Hill College senior midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) and freshman attack freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) were two of many Griffins to supply quality performances in Saturday’s 15-12 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College. The former totaled six points (3 goals, 3 assists) and a team-high four ground balls, while providing the game-winner (13-10, 13:34 4QTR) against the Redhawks, while the latter was a playmaker with two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Chestnut Hill College (3-2) recorded the first goal of the game on an unassisted Revak goal (1-0, 12:57), but trailed Roberts Wesleyan College (2-1) to a narrow 8-7 halftime deficit. Faceoffs and turnovers were the tail; the Redhawks controlled the circle (14-of-17, .824), but the Griffin defense forced the visitors into 13 turnovers before intermission.

Afterwards, the Redhawks first extended their lead (9-7, 13:16), before the Scarlet and Gold put them in the review mirror with seven of the next eight tallies. The Chestnut Hill College run was initiated by an unassisted goal from junior attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) (9-8, 11:49), a game-tying goal from Melnick (9-9, 3:51), and the first career goal for freshman defenseman Chase Snyder (Millsboro, Del.), 10-9 (3:22). Roberts Wesleyan College interrupted the run with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter, 10-10, but the Griffins scored twice more in the pivotal third quarter, sneaking in important tallies with clutch connections between senior midfielder Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) and Revak (11-10, 0:57) and sophomore midfielder Colby Seneca (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Rees, 12-10, 0:03. In the fourth quarter, Revak’s eventual game-winner provided the weight Chestnut Hill College needed to shew the Redhawks away.

Chestnut Hill College plays next on Friday, April 2, when they visit #3 Mercyhurst University for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
