Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) first led #15 Chestnut Hill College to a 6-2 halftime lead, before bringing having to bring all things during a hectic final minute that unfortunately left the contest in #9 LIU Post University’s favor, 10-9. Melnychenko finished the contest with five points on three goals, two assists, five ground balls, and a caused turnover to return as to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Week Six Honor Roll.
Chestnut Hill College (3-4, 2-2) controlled the first of two different halves. Each side scored a goal in the first quarter and LIU Post University (5-2, 4-1) took a 2-1 advantage at 13:25 of the second quarter, before Melnychenko scored unassisted and with a man-up before finding sophomore attack
Michael Plaia (Hicksville, N.Y.) on the second of two goals in the Griffins 5-0 run to halftime, 6-2. Unfortunately, the second half went the Pioneers way as the visitors cut the lead in half by the end of the third quarter, 7-5, and led by two goals, 9-7, before the final whirlwind minute. Derick Darnulc (Baldwin, N.Y.) at the minute-marker (1:00), 9-8, and made a remarkable individual play to strip a Pioneer defender and score to tie the game with 46 seconds left to play (0:46), 9-9. Unfortunately the effort was all for not with senior defenseman T.J. McAndrew (Randolph, N.J.) located sophomore attack Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) for the Pioneer game-winner just 13 seconds later, 10-9 (0:33).
The men's lacrosse team continues their ECC schedule at Dowling College for a 1:00 p.m. ECC contest on Saturday, April 5.
