Parapouras Follows Shcherbakova

As CACC Rookie of the Week

New Haven, CT – (9/27/2010) – Sophomore Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) improved to 7-0 at number three singles with her 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win over junior Juliana Frey (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) of Concordia College (NY) on September 25. She also won her singles match against the University of the Sciences and Post University on September 22 and September 24, respectively. She also teamed with sophomore Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) for doubles victories against all three conference foes. For her efforts she was recognized as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week.

Parapouras is the second straight member of the Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 3-2) women’s tennis team to win the conference’s rookie of the week title after sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) earned the award on September 20 for her play in the USTA/ITA East Regional. This week, Parapouras went 3-0 in singles play and was the only Griffin to record a win against Concordia College on September 25. She also recorded individual victories against the Devils and the Eagles while teaming with Knott for a 2-1 mark in doubles play. Parapouras is the only unbeaten Griffin in singles play; she has combined with Knott for a 5-3 record at number two doubles.

The women’s tennis team resumes their CACC schedule with a trip to Philadelphia University on Tuesday, September 28. Opening serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
