Eidam and Johnson End Week on CACC Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (3/29/2016) – In a busy 4-4 week of competition, seniors, Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) and Kaitlyn Johnson (New Boston, N.H.) were recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll. Eidam only batted .278 (5-for-18) but was still at the center of the Griffins’ run production with four runs scored and six runs-batted-in (RBI) while Johnson held the opposition to four earned runs on 15 hits and a walk over 18.1 innings. She took a loss in the second game versus Wilmington University before earning wins in the second games at Mercy College and the University of the Sciences (USciences).

After a 3-1 loss was in the books from game one, Chestnut Hill College sought revenge against East Stroudsburg University in game two. With the contest tied at 1-1 after seven innings, freshman designated player Jordan Clark (Greenwood, Del.) reached home in the eighth inning after advancing to third base on a ground out to second and a sacrifice fly from freshman third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) that secured the 2-1 victory for the Griffins. Eidam recorded a sixth inning sacrifice fly to account for the Griffins’ lone run in the opener.

In Wednesday's CACC doubleheader, Wilmington University used the seventh inning in both games to earn a pair of victories, 5-1 and 5-4, over Chestnut Hill College. Even with energetic support from the bench, the Griffins could not connect in the bottom of the seventh inning against freshman relief pitcher Caitlyn Whiteside (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) who came in for the save in the opener and earned the win in the nightcap. Johnson took the loss (2-8) despite only allowing three earned runs on nine hits. She struck out three.

Junior right fielder Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) served as the heroine in the eighth inning of Friday's second game at Mercy College, as her single to short was deep enough in the hole to allow sophomore left fielder Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.) to score the game-winning run, 6-5. The Mavericks won the opener, 11-3, with a four-run first inning and a six-run fourth inning accounting for a bulk of their run production. Pulis and freshman third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif) each record three hits in the twin bill while Eidam recorded a two-run home run in second game of the twin bill. Johnson collected the game-two win (3-8) with four innings of solid relief.

?On Saturday, March 26, Chestnut Hill College had it working on both ends, earning their second CACC sweep of the season with 8-1 and 6-1 victories over the University of the Sciences (USciences). Junior shortstop Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.) and senior second baseman Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) each recorded four hits in the twin bill while junior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif) and Johnson (New Boston, N.H.) each won their fourth games of the season. Johnson (4-8) held the Devils to one run on five hits and a walk while striking out nine. Eidam was 3-for-7 with two runs and three RBI, providing late insurance tallies in both wins.

The softball team returns to campus to host Bloomfield College in a 2:30 p.m. CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, March 29.
