Bocaletto Brings Home CACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. – (3/12/2018) – Senior captain Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) contributed to three points to Chestnut Hill College’s in a 1-1 week, which included a significant 5-4 win over Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). For his efforts, he was recognized today, Monday, March 12, as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.

In the first of two high-end regional matches on an extended New England tour, Chestnut Hill College (4-2) battled back from a 2-1 doubles deficit with successive singles wins from sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France), freshman Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela), senior Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany), and sophomore Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden). SNHU (4-3) scored the first point of the match with an 8-3 win at number two doubles. The fifth-ranked, Griffins evened the score thanks to a 9-7 number one doubles win from senior duo, Bocaletto and fellow senior Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil). But the Penmen won a hard fought point at number three doubles, 9-8 (9-7) to secure the round. SNHU extended their lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-3, win at number four singles. But that is when the tide turned, with Scarlet and Gold vengeance seizing victory in the third (7-5, 6-0), second (3-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-3), first (4-6, 6-4, 6-3), and sixth (6-1, 6-2) individual flights, 5-3. The Penmen claimed the final point at number five singles, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7, in vain, 5-4.

On Sunday, March 11, Bocaletto and Regalin’s 8-2, number one doubles victory gave Chestnut Hill College a 1-0 edge over Merrimack College (6-4). Unfortunately, the Warriors were able to steal the momentum with consecutive 8-6 wins at number three and number two doubles. Regalin’s number five singles victory knotted the match at 2-2, but the fight was far from over as Merrimack reclaimed their advantage to 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-4, win at number two singles. The Warriors then improved their position to 4-2 after a 6-3, 6-3, win at number one singles only for Bocaletto and sophomore Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) to rally Chestnut Hill College for the tying points at number four singles, 6-4, 6-4, and number six singles, 6-0, 6-1, respectively. The decision came down to the result of the number three singles flight, where sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) valiantly fought to a 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-0, demise.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis team returns home to host the University of the District of Columbia in a 12:00 p.m. match on Saturday, March 17.
