Chestnut Hill College Honor Senior Duo, Before 6-1 CACC Loss to Wildcats

Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/14/2018) – Junior Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) went 2-1 at number two singles and 0-3 at number one singles to garner a spot on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Honor Roll. Broville did her best to help Chestnut Hill College in a string of league losses to the University of the Sciences (USciences) (L, 2-5 on October 10), Jefferson (L, 3-4 on October 12), and Wilmington University (L, 1-6 on October 14), offering individual wins over the Devils’ senior Abbygail Gamarnik (Jamison, Pa.) (W, 6-3, 6-1) and the Lady Rams’ junior Marta Yevstakhevych (Jamison, Pa.) (W, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3)).

A sweep of doubles play by University of the Sciences (USciences) (5-4, 4-2) left Chestnut Hill College (2-6, 2-6) to rally in the singles round of Wednesday evening's CACC match. Unfortunately, the Devils were able to clinch victory before respective number six (6-3, 6-0) and number two singles (6-3, 6-1) from freshman Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) and Broville broke their shutout in an eventual 5-2 final.

With their CACC season quickly coming to a close, Chestnut Hill College traveled down Henry Avenue to visit Jefferson for Friday afternoon's league match. The Lady Rams grabbed an early advantage with a sweep of doubles play (1-0) and used their momentum to clinch (4-1), before a pair of Griffin singles wins closed out competition, 4-3. Senior Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil), Vassalluzzo, and Broville respectively earned the Scarlet and Gold's points with wins at number four (6-3, 6-3), number six (8-4), and number two (6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3)) singles.

Two days later, Chestnut Hill College concluded their CACC and fall season schedules with a Senior Day match against Wilmington University. The Wildcats won the match, surrendering only a point to junior Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) in a 6-1 end.  Wilmington University (7-4, 7-1) claimed their first point with doubles wins in the second (6-1) and third (6-1) flights. Covic and Broville held on for a 6-4 loss at number one doubles, 2-0. In singles play, Broville battled at the conclusion of the affair, eventually losing the second individual flight by a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6, final.
