Millersville, Pa. – (4/8/2013) – Chestnut Hill College tennis continued a tremendous season with both sides collecting wins in this afternoon's matches at Millersville University. The Griffins men improved to 14-5 with an efficient 8-1 victory over the Marauders while the women came from behind for a 7-2 victory to advance to 17-8 on the season.
Three doubles wins delivered the Chestnut Hill College men (14-5) the advantage heading to singles play. Junior
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and sophomore
Steven Say (Cannes, France) combined for the 8-5 win at number one doubles. At number two doubles, sophomore
Michael Humes (Medford, N.J.) and junior
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) were victorious 8-6, while freshman
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) and junior
Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, N.Y.) took the third team flight 8-2.
Millersville University (3-10) earned their only point of the match at number one singles with Humes falling to sophomore Jody Sambrick Jr. (Lancaster, Pa.) 6-3, 6-1. Pham forged ahead at number two singles 6-1, 6-0, Say secured number three singles 6-0, 6-0, Taylor took number four singles 6-1, 6-2, Ceniceros closed out at number five singles 6-0, 6-0, and Solema succeeded at number six singles 6-0, 6-1.
Millersville University (5-11) took number two and number three doubles to put the Chestnut Hill College women (17-8) in an unexpected spot early in today's match. It would be senior
Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) who put the Griffins on the scoreboard with a 9-7 win at number one doubles. The Marauders won number two doubles 9-8 and number three doubles 8-5.
The Griffins took it to the Marauders in singles play, sweeping the round to secure the 7-2 victory. At number one singles, Shcherbakova succeeded 6-4, 6-3. Junior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) dominated at number two singles 6-1, 6-0, Parapouras provided a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles, sophomore
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) outworked freshman Nicole Daacke (Glen Rock, Pa.) at number four singles 6-1, 6-4, senior
Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) to care of number five singles 7-5, 6-3, and freshman
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) owned number six singles 6-1, 6-1.
The men's tennis team continues their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 3:00 p.m. match at #10 Concordia College (NY) on Wednesday, April 10, while the women conclude their 2012-2013 regular season schedule on Wednesday, April 17, with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Philadelphia University.
