Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/27/2018) – Taking the field for the first time in over a week, Chestnut Hill College visited Jefferson University this afternoon for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opener. The Lady Rams welcomed the Griffins with a sizeable 8-0 lead that the Scarlet and Gold reduced to as few as five goals, 14-9, before ultimately defeating Chestnut Hill College by a seven-point, 18-11, spread. Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) scored three goals apiece to lead the Griffins; the former added an assist, a ground ball, and four draws, while the latter also recovered a ground ball and corralled three draws.
Senior attack Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the contest at 28:05, 1-0, and contributed to five more tallies in a 8-0 Jefferson University (1-4, 1-0) opening run. Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 0-1) broke the streak with an unassisted Galantich goal at 11:21, 8-1, but the Lady Rams echoed her goal and another from sophomore midfielder
Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) (9-2, 5:04), before Reinert (10-3, 3:19) and sophomore attack
Dai Pearson (Pottstown, Pa.) (10-4, 1:04) ended the first half with back-to-back Griffin goals.
Jefferson University extended their 10-4 halftime lead to 13-5 before the 23-minute mark (23:22), an eight-goal margin which Chestnut Hill College trimmed to five goals, 13-8, with a three-goal run that concluded at 17:20 on a connection between sophomore midfielder
Mary Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Galantich. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams outscored the Griffins 5-3 the rest of the way in an 18-11 end.
Avanzato led Jefferson University with 12 points; she split them evenly between goals and assists, while also recording two ground balls and a caused turnover. Junior attack Laura Dunne (Collegeville, Pa.) was one of three other Lady Rams to record multiple points, recording six with two goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder Sarah von Lange (Marriottsville, Md.) recorded a goal, a ground ball, two draws, and caused four turnovers, while freshman midfielder Erin Campbell (Cherry Hill, N.J.) contributed a goal, five ground balls, eight draws, and two caused turnovers. In goal, sophomore Victoria Raimondi (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) (1-4) made nine saves and recovered a ground ball.
Fitzgerald was the only Griffins besides Galantich and Reinert to record multiple points; she scored her second goal at 20:37 of the second half and additionally provided Chestnut Hill College with a ground ball. Kroppe finished the affair with a career-high three points, scoring a goal at 24:49 of the second half and adding a second assist on a goal by senior midfielder
