Box Score Salisbury, N.C. - (3/7/2018) – Today's women's lacrosse game was truly a tale of two halves with the host, Catawba College establishing just enough of a cushion to withstand Chestnut Hill College's second half surge, 16-15. Senior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) scored five goals apiece; the former highlighted a 10-5 Indian first half with three Scarlet and Gold goals, while the latter inspired the Griffins' second half rally that fell shy of its mark.
 
Junior attack Erin Green (Stratford, N.J.) and sophomore attack Gianna Pezzulo (Henniker, N.H.) built Catawba College (4-4) an initial 4-0 lead that was quickly cut in half with Chestnut Hill College (1-1) strikes from junior midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) (4-1, 21:50) and Galantich (4-2, 21:27). Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold rally was cut short as the Indians outscored the Griffins 6-3 over the remaining first half clock, 10-5.
 
After intermission, Fitzgerald bookended a 4-1 Chestnut Hill College run with respective unassisted tallies at 27:41 (10-6) and 20:42 (11-9). She showed up again in the final seven minutes, ending a Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) inspired Scarlet and Gold run with two more unassisted scores (6:44, 4:35). But the effort left the Griffins one goal out from the Indians' mark, 16-5.
 
Green finished with six goals, an assist, two draws, and two caused turnovers as Catawba College's top performer. She got plenty of help from Pezzulo and sophomore midfielder Nicole Hunt (Pleasant Gardens, N.C.), who combined for nine assists; the former added two goals, a ground ball, a draw, and a caused turnover to her four helpers, while the latter recorded one goal, four ground balls, two draws, and three caused turnovers to her five assists. In goal, senior Madison Anselmo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) totaled 10 saves and two ground balls.
 
Galantich finished with a team-high six points with an assist in addition to her five scores. She also recorded a ground ball, a career-high nine draws, and three caused turnovers. Fitzgerald's five goals is a career-high; she also matched her career-high single game point total with the effort. Additionally, she provided two ground balls and a draw. Reiner, Leckonby, sophomore midfielders Mary Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Haley Norwillo (Duryea, Pa.), and senior midfielder Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) were responsible for the five Scarlet and Gold goals, while the defense was headlined by senior Gillian Wixted (Bensalem, Pa.) and sophomore Kaley Malampy (Ridley Park, Pa.), and junior goalkeeper junior Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.). Wixted totaled four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Malampy contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Amaya (1-1) made nine saves and recovered three ground balls.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team returns to action next Wednesday, March 14, when they host East Stroudsburg University in a 4:00 p.m. home opener.
