United Chestnut Hill College Performance Doubles Walsh University Output, 14-7

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/31/2018) – Chestnut Hill College continued a home-heavy schedule today, Saturday, March 31, with a late afternoon contest against Walsh University (Ohio). A united second-quarter effort saw five different Griffins score and separated the Scarlet and Gold for a 14-7 victory over the Cavaliers. Senior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) led Chestnut Hill College offensively with five points (4 goals, 1 assist), while senior goalkeeper Matthew Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.) (2-5) was solid between the pipes with 15 saves and three ground balls.
 
Klusaritz scored the first Chestnut Hill College (3-5) goal of the contest with 4:16 left in the first quarter, 1-0. Freshman attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) added a bonus tally before the end of the frame, completing a pass from senior midfielder Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.) with just 52 seconds (0:52) left on the quarter clock. In the second quarter, Walsh University (1-8) cut the deficit in half, 2-1, early (12:17), but Griffin goals from senior midfielder Gerard Lyle (Baldwin, N.Y.) (3-1, 11:11), Klusaritz (4-1, 10:09), junior midfielder Nicholas Webber (Westwood, Mass.) (5-1, 4:56), freshman midfielder Austin Philistine (Rising Sun, Md.) (6-1, 3:20), and junior attack Michael DelGiorno (Floral Park, N.Y.) (0:37) made the difference 7-1 for intermission. The opponents exchanged scores three times in the third quarter, leaving the Griffins ahead 10-4 at the break. Afterwards, Lyle, Klusaritz, and Pope popped the net with fourth-quarter goals that ushered Chestnut Hill College to a 14-7 triumphed.
 
Freshman attack Jake Shendervosky (Gurnee, Ill.) and junior attack Sean Cavanaugh (Silver Lake, Ohio) scored two goals apiece for the Cavaliers, who also received a goal from freshman attack Maurice Kelly (Fort Saskatacewan, A.B.), sophomore attack Kevin McMahon (Buffalo, N.Y.), and freshman attack Kevin Maxey (Wawautosa, Wisc.). Freshman goalkeeper Noah Ross (Frederickburgs, Va.) (1-8) made 12 saves in the loss.
 
Klusaritz's four goals came with one assist. Pope, Howell, and Philistine all finished with two goals and an assist. Howell added three ground balls to his points, while Philistine's points served as the first of his collegiate career. Lyle scored twice, while Webber and DelGiorno partnered their tallies with a ground ball. Senior defenseman Kyle Newman (Plainsboro, N.J.) helped Pedrick command the Griffin defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team returns to Victory Field #1 on Tuesday, April 3, when they host Molloy College in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
