Galantich Nets Milestone Goal, Griffins Gain CACC Prize with 20-7 Triumph at Post University

Box Score Waterbury, Conn. – (4/8/2018) – Thanks in large part to senior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.), it was a celebratory performance today, Sunday, April 8, for Chestnut Hill College, who cruised to a 20-7 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Post University. The Griffin captain netted the 100th goal of her collegiate career with 16:32 (3-2) remaining in the first half and finished the contest with seven points in all with a career-high six goals and an assist.
 
Galantich got Chestnut Hill College (6-4, 3-1) the initial lead for the second straight game with her free position tally at 21:52, 1-0. But Post University (2-11, 1-4) quickly turned the tables, fetching a 3-1 (18:35) lead with the next three goals of the affair. It was her milestone goal the swung the momentum back in the Griffins' favor as four Scarlet and Gold scores followed to gain Chestnut Hill College a 6-3 advantage by the 12-minute (12:00) mark. From there, the Griffins expanded their lead to 9-4 before a second-half avalanche. After intermission, the Eagles momentarily reduced the deficit to four, 10-6 (26:48), only for a 9-0 Griffin run to separate Chestnut Hill College by 13 scores, 19-6 (5:56), heading to the final five minutes of play. A final exchange of tallies kept the final margin there, 20-7.
 
Junior attack Savanah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) led Post University with three goals, a ground ball, and two draws, but her effort was well supported by the play of sophomore midfielder Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I) and senior attack Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.). Souto totaled two goals, a ground ball, and five draws, while Deren finished the affair with a goal, three ground balls, five draws, and two caused turnovers. In goal, freshman goalkeeper Noreen Donnelly (Staten Island, N.Y.) (2-11) made a dozen (12) saves and recovered three ground balls.
 
Galantich added two ground balls, a draw, and a caused turnover to her historic performance. She is the ninth Griffin to reach the century mark and the first member of the current Scarlet and Gold roster to do so this season as senior midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) and junior midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) inched closer to their historic tallies in today's landslide victory. Leckonby scored one goal, advancing her career total to 94, while Reinert netted four goals to leave her career total to 97; the former also provided three ground balls and two caused turnovers as the latter additionally reported three assists, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Sophomore midfielder Mary Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa.) continued her strong play with a goal, five ground balls, and seven draws, while junior goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) (6-4) made a dozen (12) saves, collected two ground balls, and caused a turnover.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 10, when they visit Felician University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
