Covic Collects Third CACC Women’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (10/21/2019) – Senior Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) earned her third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll appearance with a 1-1 record in both singles and doubles against league rivals Goldey-Beacom College (L, 1-6 on October 15) and Wilmington University (W, 5-1 on October 19). Covic scored the Griffins’ lone point against the Lightning, benefitting from an injury retirement despite trailing 2-1 at number one singles. In the victory over the Wildcats, she combined with fellow senior Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) for a 6-3 number one doubles win that helped the Scarlet and Gold get the early edge.

A short-handed Chestnut Hill College (6-6, 5-4) welcomed Goldey-Beacom College (8-1, 8-1) to the Campus Courts for Tuesday (Oct. 15) afternoon's CACC contest. The Lightning capitalized on their advantage, fulfilling the doubles point with a 6-1 win at number one doubles, and securing the match with individual wins in the fifth (6-0, 6-0) and fourth (6-1, 6-0) flights before eventually earning a 6-1 match victory. The Griffins earned their only point at number one singles, where Covic won by injury retirement despite trailing 2-1. In doubles, Covic and Broville dropped the top flight by a 6-1 measure.

The 2019 CACC regular season came to a close on Saturday, October 19, for Chestnut Hill College, who ensured themselves the #5 seed in the upcoming CACC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament with a 5-1 victory at Wilmington University. The Griffins used back-to-back 6-3 wins at number two and number one doubles to win the team point. In singles, consecutive scores from senior Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) (6-0, 6-0 @ #5), sophomore Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) (6-2, 6-2 @ #4), and freshman Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain) (6-3, 6-3 @ #3) secured the win for the Scarlet and Gold. Covic and Broville closed doubles competition with their 6-3 win in the top flight. After clinching the match, Chestnut Hill College split the remaining flights, including Covic’s 6-2, 6-2, loss at number one.
