Uzzell Scores Griffins’ Second Straight CACC Baseball Player of the Week, Woltemate Appears On Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (3/9/2020) – Chestnut Hill College provided the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball’s top player for the second straight as senior shortstop Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) garnered the CACC Player of the Week award with a .435 (10-for-23) batting average, seven runs scored, and four stolen bases (4-of-4, 1.000) during the Griffins’ 2-4 closing stretch in Florida. Junior Pat Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) joined him on the report as an Honor Roll mention. He allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks, working seven strong innings (7.0IP, 3H, 1R, 1BB, 8K) in a 5-4, 14-inning loss to Barry University (March 3) and earning the win with a 3.2-inning start (W, 3.2IP, 5H, 1R, 2BB, 3K) in the Griffins’ 3-1 concluding win over Florida Memorial University (March 7).

Uzzell opened the week with a 3-for-5 effort in the Griffins’ 9-0 victory over Barry University (March 2). He led off the third and fourth innings with singles, scoring in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from junior centerfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) and in the fourth inning on a double to centerfield from junior catcher Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.). He collected his third hit of the game with an eighth-inning single through the middle.

The following day, on Tuesday, March 3, Uzzell went 2-for-6 in the second game against the Buccaneers. This time Barry came out on top, 5-4, in 14 innings. Uzzell singled in the eighth inning and hustled to third base after his steal drew an errant throw from Barry University’s catcher. He scored two batters later on fielding error by the Buccaneer shortstop. He also walked in the 10th inning and led off the 13th inning with a double to left field. Woltemate was masterful in his seven-inning start, only surrendering three hits and a walk, while striking out eight.

Uzzell was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs and a stolen base in the Griffins’ 13-10 non-conference loss to Concordia College (NY) (March 5). He also went 4-for-9 in a three-game set at Florida Memorial University. Chestnut Hill College won the series finale by a 3-1 margin with Uzzell providing a two-out single in the fourth inning and a leadoff single in the seventh inning. Woltemate started the affair, limiting the Lions to one run in the opening 3.2 innings. He allowed five hits and two walks, while striking out three.
