Barletta Crowned CACC Baseball Player of the Week, Woltemate Wins Honor Roll Appearance

New Haven, Conn. - (4/26/2021) – Junior catcher/outfielder Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) was nearly impossible to get out during last week’s 3-0 showing versus Wilmington University (W, 4-2 on April 20) and Bloomfield College (W, 19-0 and W, 15-3 on April 22). He finished the week with a .909 (10-for-11)/1.273/.929 (AVG/SLG/OBP) slash line that produced seven runs and seven runs-batted-in (RBI), and garnered himself the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week award. Junior Pat Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) made an appearance on the CACC Baseball Weekly Report with a brilliant start in the Griffins’ 4-2 win over the Wildcats.

Chestnut Hill College (11-12, 8-8) emerged as the victor in Tuesday evening's CACC affair with Wilmington University (9-4, 9-4) as a three-run fifth inning was enough coverage for Woltemate (W, 6.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K) and sophomore Dan Rockenbach (Holland, Pa.) (SV, 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K) to retire the Wildcats in a 4-2 final. Junior first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) doubled in a pair of Griffins in the three-run fifth with a bases-loaded single through the right side. Senior second baseman Patrick Meenan (Oreland, Pa.) sacrificed home the other Chestnut Hill College run of the frame, while Barletta doubled in the first Scarlet and Gold run with two out in the third inning. He finished the contest 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, a run, and an RBI.

Chestnut Hill College gave Bloomfield College (7-9, 7-8) little chance in Thursday’s CACC proceedings. The Griffins welcomed the Bears with 17 runs in their first two at-bats and eventually won the first game of the doubleheader by a 19-0 margin. Game two was slightly more competitive as the Scarlet and Gold posted a 10-2 advantage after three innings and owned a 15-3 lead when the contest concluded. Dietz helped himself to his first win (1-2, 5.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 6 K) of the season in the opener with a 3-for-6 effort that included a double, a home run, two runs, and six RBI. In game two, Barletta and Meenan each knocked in four runs; the former was 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and a stolen base, while the latter (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 runs) connected for a grand slam during the Griffins’ five-run first inning.

Chestnut Hill College looks to remain hot as they take to the road on Monday, April 26, for a 2:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader at Dominican College.
