Raia Returns to CACC Weekly Report, Slagle Slugs Way On Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (4/8/2014) – Junior pitcher Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) continued to dazzle his Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents this week as he logged 13 more scoreless innings in wins over Caldwell College and Bloomfield College. Meanwhile, sophomore catcher Robert Slagle III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) batted .400 (6-fo-15) with seven runs-batted-in (RBI) to help Chestnut Hill College to a 4-2 week of league play. For their efforts, they were respectively recognized as the CACC Pitcher of the Week and a Weekly Honor Roll mention.

Slagle offered two hits (2-for-3) and a RBI in a 7-3, 2-0 CACC sweep at Caldwell College (2-15, 0-8), before going 6-for-10 (.600) with six RBI in a sweep of Bloomfield College (5-15, 5-6). In the opener with the Deacons, Slagle led-off a four-run second inning with a single, and a one-run third inning reaching on an error, before connecting for a three-run homerun in the top of the fourth inning. He later reached on an eighth-inning error to finish the first fray with the Deacons 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. He had three more hits in the second game (3-for-5), including a first-inning RBI single, second-inning single, a fourth-inning walk, and another run-scoring single in the Griffins four-run ninth inning. Slagle currently leads Chestnut Hill College (9-9, 6-2) in batting (17-for-44, .386), runs (14), RBI (11), slugging (.568), and on-base percentage (.509).

While Slagle provided the pop, Raia kept the Cougar and Deacon bats quiet with 13 strikeouts over 13 innings of work. Against the Cougars, Raia spread five hits, a walk, and six strikeouts over six innings. Then, in game-one with the Deacons, he allowed two unearned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Since returning from Florida, Raia is 4-0 with a 0.00 earned run average; 27.2 IP, 16 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 8 BB, 34K.

The baseball team engages in their next CACC challenge on Tuesday, April 8, when they host Felician College for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
