CACC Names Comas Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
 
New Haven, CT – (1/31/2011) – Junior center Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) earned his first career Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award after averaging 19.0 points-per-game (PPG) and 11.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG) in a 2-0 week for Chestnut Hill College. Behind Comas’ consistent post play the Griffins scored crucial conference wins over Wilmington University and Nyack College.
 
Comas has led Chestnut Hill College (7-10, 4-5) to five wins in their last six contests, which included conference victories over the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia University, Wilmington University, and Nyack College. He opened last week with 22 points and 14 rebounds in a home win over Wilmington University on Tuesday, January 25. Comas sophomore guard Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, PA) kept the game close in the opening period, 36-33, before a 58-point second half propelled the Griffins to victory. Chestnut Hill College grabbed their second win at Nyack College on Saturday, January 29; Comas went for 16 points and eight rebounds. He finished the week 14-of-21 (66.7%) from the field and 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw line.
 
For the season, Comas is leading the Griffins in scoring (18.0 PPG), rebounding (10.2 RPG), and blocks (20). He is shooting 56.6% (82-of-145) from the field and 64.2% (70-of-109) at the free throw line. Comas is one of three players in the CACC currently averaging a double-double; he has recorded six this season. In the conference, Comas ranks second in rebounding, fourth in scoring, fourth in blocks (1.54/game), and fifth in field goal percentage.
 
The men’s basketball team continues their CACC schedule when they host the University of the Sciences in an 8:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday, February 1.
