Leckonby Draws Fourth CACC Defensive Player of The Week Award, Keimig Join on Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (4/18/2016) – Demonstrating her ability to play at both ends of the field, sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) garnered her fourth Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week title with eight ground balls, six draws, and six caused turnovers in addition to her two-goal effort versus Georgian Court University. Senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) was mentioned on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for her two-game total of five goals, an assist, five ground balls, four draws, and two caused turnovers.

The rolling Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team recorded their first-ever victory over Georgian Court University and fifth straight league win with Wednesday’s highly competitive 6-5 triumph over the Lions. The Scarlet and Gold held a 4-2 halftime edge thanks to a pair of late first-half scores from freshman midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) and Leckonby. The Lions outscored the Griffins 3-2 in the latter period, but again late scores, this time from Keimig and junior midfielder Rachel Perry (Gilbertsville, Pa.), rallied the Griffins to a valuable league triumph.

Leckonby was one of many stars in the Griffins’ historic performance. She led the Scarlet and Gold with two goals, three ground balls, three draws, and three caused turnovers. Keimig, Galantich, and Reinert all record two points, while Perry’s game-winner was her lone score in an effort that included three ground balls, a draw, and two caused turnovers.

A competitive contest early, Saturday’s sensational Senior Day contest versus Holy Family University saw Chestnut Hill College outscore the Tigers 9-1 in a 25-minute frame the spanned the halftime gap and left the Scarlet and Gold ahead 12-7 with 16-minutes to play. From there the Griffins managed to keep their distance from the Tigers in a 14-12 CACC final that was not as close as it appeared. It was the Griffins’ first win over the Tigers since 2009 and the seventh straight in their current streak.

For the Griffins, Keimig headlined the box score with four goals, three ground balls, four draws, and two caused turnovers. In front of junior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.), Leckonby headlined the defense with totaled five ground balls, three draws, and three caused turnovers.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 19, when they host Nyack College in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
