Crim Earns CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week Award, Cattai and Looby Garner Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (5/2/2016) – Following a senior day sweep over Caldwell University, the Chestnut Hill College baseball team featured three players on the latest installment of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Report. Senior pitcher Zachary Crim (Horsham, Pa.) received the CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week award with Felician University junior pitcher Matt Blandino (Bristol, Conn.) while senior leftfielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) and freshman pitcher Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered recognition on the league’s Honor Roll.

After a 9-0 shutout in game one, Chestnut Hill College (24-18. 14-6) continued their stellar Senior Day play against Caldwell University (9-25, 5-15) with a 4-1 victory in the second game of the CACC doubleheader. Looby finished the day with four hits (4-of-8), scoring three times in the opener and knocking in a run in game two with a two-out single in the first inning. In game one, Crim threw a complete game, shut out; striking out eight while only walking two in his third win of the season (3-0). Sophomore Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) Cattai shared the mound in game two, the former earning his sixth win (6-3) with six strike outs in six innings and held the Cougars to one a run on four hits and three walks while the latter threw three innings of scoreless relief for, a program record, sixth save (6) of the season.

Looby led off the Griffins' second at-bat of the opener with a double to the right center. He eventually advanced to third on a double play before scoring after a beaning of junior center fielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) and a two-run single down to right field line from junior shortstop Jonathan Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.) (2-0). Chestnut Hill College (24-18. 14-6) added additional runs in the fifth, 3-0, sixth (4-0) and seventh innings, 5-0, before putting Caldwell University (9-25, 5-15) away in a 9-0 final. Looby was 3-for-4 and scored three times.

Chestnut Hill College got started early in game two as well. Senior first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk and he stole second before Looby's up the middle brought Campion home for the Griffins' first run (1-0). Sophomore designated hitter Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) knocked in the second Griffin run with a third-inning double down the left line (2-0), before the Cougars eventually got on the scoreboard with four fourth-inning singles, 2-1. But that was as close as Cougars would get with the Scarlet and Gold scoring insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth (3-1) and eighth innings, 4-1. Cattai held the Cougars scoreless in their last three at-bats for a program-best sixth save. Kelley held the Cougars to one a run on four hits and three walks.

The Griffins now visit Philadelphia University on Tuesday, May 3, for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
